A brief FR on my experience using Ubigi e-sim on my recent trip

- Bought the 10GB plan and activated on the day of my flight
- The 5G experience was decent but the battery drain is quite significant
- I normally use the data for Google maps wayfinding, Google searches and social media outside of my hotel; nothing too data-consuming like streaming videos
- At the end of my 11-day trip, still have around 3GB remaining

Conclusion: I had a very positive experience and will consider using Ubigi again when going to Japan again

Does ubig support hotspot as well?

paid in USD from YouTrip. hotspot I think it works. vaguely remember toggling hotspot when hotel wifi was not working well on my laptop. dun quote me tho..

Yes it should help battery life if limit to 4G/LTE. U can go to phone settings, under the active mobile plan to make the changes

7GB of data in 11 days seems quite a lot for normal usage. Is there like a 5G data synchronizing in the background?

I may have used up 1GB of data running speedtest in my enthusiasm to see the 5G speeds, which I didn't realized used up so much data....

The regular suica (green one) is no longer available. Either you get the welcome suica (red, tourist version) or you get other prefectures’ IC card.

Someone in my group chat suggested to get Toica instead from JR-CENTRAL Ticket Office (Yaesu North or Yaesu Central) at Tokyo station.

This way, you can reuse the IC card for your future trip as IC card has 10 years validity (validity gets extended every time you use it).

Me. Most places i was able to get 5G. Connection is fast and stable for me. Inside mall reception also good. Ubigi esim with 14PM.

yes. used YouTrip added to Pay to topup. digital Suica super convenient

For now only Amex and Mastercard even for Apple Pay

For some reason Visa CC can't be used to top up e-Suica

Not a lot if you are surfing social media like Instagram, you be surprise how much data it can eat especially when data saver is off.

That is true. Any idea how much faster 5G is compared to 4G/LTE? Most of the usage will be for directions and reviews.

went with Ubigi cos of the 5G (Docomo). Airalo is 4G (SoftBank/KDDI). pros of Airalo is it has a rebate system so you use more got more discount for subsequent uses
