trevelling to osaka in Jan 2023 but arriving at airport at 9pm, will telco shops selling data sim for tourists be still open ?

also thought it would be better to have the sim ready when reach there, rather than reach there then settle, might have hiccups,

any local selling which is recommended ?
If you can use eSIM, can try Ubigi. Quite cheap, US$16 for 10GB, 30 days. Other plans available. Can set up before going Japan.

Their parent company is NTT Docomo, their version of Singtel

Those using mobile virtual network operators (MVNO) line, can look into your operator. Some of the local MVNOs have roaming plans which you can subscribe for Japan trip. Quite affordable if you don't need unlimited data.

Used eSIM bought from Shopee, not bad. But only data, no call.

Think it was $20 for 15 days (200MB per day), HK network SIM roaming on KDDI i believe

Anyone knows of a sim card with data and voice calls for 10 days?

So far the ones I saw are only 7-8 days, including singtel's roaming plan. If not, will just have to get another sim card for the remaining few days.

i would use simba(tpg), since no contract, just sign up now and keep it as ur 2nd line or for ur ipad. $10/mth nia.
roaming is pre-paid, just top up ur acc abd it will deduct from there.
$4/GB and not lock to particular telco.
free 10GB/mth for Malaysia roaming some more

hope it is not too late to reply to you.
I used Ubigi for 10 days on the $16/10GB plan. I drove from Narita, along the middle and eastern coast of Tohoku region, up Sendai, all the way to Iwate, and Aomori and back to Tokyo from Akita and thru Fukushima. The driving were on expressways, mountain regions, sea sides, towns and cities.

The signal were good 99% of the time. The only time I lost signal was in the mountain valley but that was for a few mins.

Otherwise, the overall experience was good, no lost of signals. Compared to M1 Data roaming on Softbank, Softbank's signal ratio was around 95% compared to Ubigi's 99% and sometimes weaker than Ubigi.

Hope this helps.
