Just came back from Tokyo about a week ago. A quick review on Airalo.

Pros:

1. Connection is pretty stable throughout the entire trip.
2. I didn't test the speed but watching IG reels, videos on FB and YouTube at 1080P are fine.
3. Uploading of IG reels and photos on FB are fine.
4. Voice call over WhatsApp and FaceTime are fine.
5. You can just turn off data on your SG number so that u can still use OTP, iMessage and FaceTime with your SG number.

Cons:

1. A working internet to install the e-SIM. Please do so in SG before your flight.
2. In order to see the updated data usage, you have to "kill" the app and launch it again.
3. Google Map is fine but slower than my friend's roaming plan from Thailand.

There was a minor hiccup on the 4th days though. I have the habit to switch the phone to flight mode every night. The data stopped working after I switched my flight mode off the next morning (the network was connected and the signal strength was full). I have to connect to my friend's network first then launch the their and check the data usage to get the data working again. It only happened once throughout the entire trip.

Visited places: Narita airport, Kawaguchiko, Shimoyoshida, Nikko, Kamakura, Shinjuku, Shibuya and Asakusa.

it was easy on Ubigi. they support Pay so no need to give them credit card information

Japan is fine, the fnb is usually do hardcopy style by writing name on a paper at the restaurant entrance.

For some reason voice SIM cards are very pricy in japan, probably because of ? strict regulations regarding non citizens and a phone number.

But their Mobal Esim "data only" is one of the cheapest. Applied for two lines for a recent trip to Hokkaido.

the price are still expensive. Go shopee/klook/kkday order can get much better rates but those are data sim only.

if you need voice and only need call out not receive can use Skype. credits are low cost

I just answered it in the post above yours lol of course you can always go for their local voice sims. never tried before tho..

ReadyRoam is overpriced? I think it's $18 for 4GB (Asia)
Ubigi is 10GB for around ~$20 (depends on discount code)

Hi @zoossh,

I have kept the Ubigi eSIM profile on my device as I may intend to travel to other countries in addition to Japan destinations.

Another point to note of its SIM validity :

The Ubigi eSIM profile has unlimited validity period as it stays active as long as you top up your Ubigi account with a prepaid data plan at least once in 18 months.

Unless if one wishes to change the current roaming device to another and which would also require a new eSIM QR code, it’s best to leave it de-activated on the current device IMHO.
