any idea what's your body fat % ?

my BMI was around 28 at my most unfit, but I can't imagine running at your pace back then

High BMi and fast runner are very uncommon. Confirm you will run faster if you come down to your ideall runners weight. but for Singaporean and local food culture, very difficult.

You can search for ideal runner's weight calculator and see how much improvement in pace you will get if you just lose your weight and maintain your fitness.

This is my calculation base on my last SCSM. Assuming I didn't lose my fitness, but just lose weight only, this is the predicted improvement in race time.

Just check with my doc for my blood test, thyroid numbers exceeded, now I am back on carbimazole. This might affect my metabolism, causing some loss of fitness which I am seeing after the difficult flu.
I remember when my hyperthyroidism was at its peak, can't even slow jog for 50m, ran out of breath.
Take care during this time bro.

Unfortunately it does matter a lot especially for long distance running.

There are some who have a slightly higher BMI like Sisay Lemma (Won the Valencia Marathon, 4th fastest in the world, 175 cm/67 kg) and Feyisa Lilesa (2nd in Rio Olympic Marathon, 175cm/67kg)

>> Sisay Lemma

>> Feyisa Lilesa

As you have noticed, their leg muscles are much bigger than the other competitors, though it consumes more energy to run but gives them more explosive power.

Both of them are bottom heavy, lower body makes up majority of their body weight.

In general, it helps to lose weight as a runner. Of course, it doesn't mean heavier runners can't progress. Just that they are definitely slower than their potential.

A heavier runner could of course outrun a skinny runner based on personal observations, probably sporting background difference, run more, more leg muscle strength. Just to think of a few reasons, but that's definitely not the norm as like Ender pointed out.

Most elite runners for FM they are in the low 50s kg or even below 50 kg..

It's a blessing that some heavy runners who can run fast like @sph777 . It only shows that if he wants to get more serious in running, losing weight while maintaining fitness is another option for him. For us, already who are already normal BMI, losing weight has lesser mileage.

Of coz different people different body types, so different body fat percentages. Some people would have more muscles coz they strength train or maybe if they are after calisthenics then it would not be good.....BMI 24 is actually pretty normal.
But generally it's good to lose weight (more specifically body fat %) if we are talking about sports like running / cycling etc. Actually that is also true for most cases from a general health perspective esp if the bulk of that fat is concentrated in the mid section for us males. (your arms / legs might be thin)

Good to hear that. Actually 300 is too much. 😅 Just get some trainers from ASCIS, New Balamce. After discount, it could be closer to $150, 180. Main thing is to try it out in the shops, best if can get onto a treadmill and fast walk + jog + sprint.

weather is good this morning, was thinking to go for a fast one in the first 6km but body couldn't respond, 心有余力不足. First 5km were all 30-60sec slower than PB.

I forgot what is the healthy range for BMI, 20 ton 23? I think just aim at the healthy range will do. No need be like pro runners who are under 20 for BMI. I think it's not healthy and we are not professional to justify for such extreme.

High fat % too of 27.9% during recent medical report 2 months ago. I think I can run only cause I have stamina from being long distance swimmer in school from sec 1 to Jc 2
Very impressive.
