But at that pace, your heart rate should be high ?

I think till the day I died also can achieved that kind of pace outside.
Of course, it's high. If 4.21 min/km is my easy pace, then I will be a sponsored athlete.

My goal for this year is 4.21 >> 4.05 for the 6km w/o carbon plate shoes. Was able to achieve that in the past with 25+km weeks.

Have slowly doubled my mileage over 1.5 month from 25+km to 50+km so I can reach that pace faster.

I read that in order to maintain your running pace, we need to stay in Zone 2

All those zone 2 / easy 80-20 polarization studies weren't done on masters / elderly athletes. For much older athletes like yourself, the research is showing that higher intensity shorter runs with plenty of recovery are much more beneficial than clocking slow long mileage.

I don't think my 50s body can achieve <7 or 6min/km too🙏🙏

Decided to go for a slightly longer distance and rest for two days after each run.

I don't think it's practical for older people to participate HM using the higher intensity run method.

Before reaching the finishing line, maybe already landed in hospital liao :s13:

I am fine with zone 2 running being 90% of mileage. One aspect senior can do well is endurance.

But do at least some intensity, coz we need to mitigate VO2max degradation due to aging.

For long distances, quite normal to be in zone 2. Also for recovery runs, can run in zone 2.

It should be in a state where you are running effortless, can daydream and talk if there’s people running with you
After you put the training, and gain enough mileage, done a significant portion of your long run with marathon pace, what racing strategy to adopt during race day?

Can consider this 10/10/10 strategy.

https://runningmagazine.ca/sections/training/try-the-10-10-10-marathon-method-for-perfect-pacing/

Try the 10/10/10 marathon method for perfect pacing

Already doing this in my long runs, progressive long runs.

I strategise for all runs above 3km. Ran the 6km yesterday with 1-3-2, 1km warm up, 3km coast, 2km burst.

Depending on the run, I come up with the strategy that works best for me.

the bush hammered granite finish pavements are wet here and I almost slipped when I ran down and up slopes, had to slow down and take small steps. outsole of the saucony endorphin pro 3 cmi.

Since you are near 50s, better not risk and be very careful of where you step. if not been supplementing with Mg/D3.
Think got some fellas here (bro llcch?) who tripped before and took a while to recover. If really suay, could end up with hairline fractures etc.

Actually my family / parents quite against me to go whack cycling........only could "pacify" them to let me do it by adding so many lights (wayang a bit, of coz i do use them lah). So, that's one part of the story. Esp for my mum, late 70s liao and she got mild depression, so i even had to whatsapp her after i reach home from my daily rides.

Anyway, my kid buanged just last night also while u-turning, i forgot to tell him to stay off the metal drain covers at the sides along Garden By The Bay since it rained yesterday. 😅 (in fact, any metal railing covers, and also the painted markings on the roads)

Running motivation

This ex-military korean guy, 37 (38 this year), debut running his first HM at 1.20.08. His 5km was 17.17 before this race and was mostly used to running 12-13km.
