Before 2019 i was doing this occasionally, issue is damn hot.
40 storeys.

Anyway i think i have heard them before on several occasions.

Maybe next time should go say HI and see what's my timing.
Last year before AHM i did try 2X at my place, but only confined to zone 2 coz not pro in this, scared injured.

What's the usual no. of storeys for vertical marathons? Interested in trying also.

SG is good for this since there are high-storey buildings everywhere and its sheltered. My own HDB already 20+ storeys liao, literally just step out of my door can access the stairs already

Singapore also has vertical marathon. Some runners do this as hill sprint. Use to do it after my run to my house. But scenery too mundane then stop. My floor only 12 storey, so not as hardcore as these unkers and aunties.

Anyway this goes against the myth running or stairs climbing destroy your knees. They do aggravate an existing injury or over train wil cause it. But if done properly these stairs climbing will strengthen the knees. These unkers and auntie have the right idea.

No need to plan. Come home after errands, work or other stuff. Just don't use the lift, and climb. From walk slowly progress to run.

I think going down is much worse.
Do not go down the stairs, take the lifts.

i think nothing wrong. i think its about conditioning. you have made your body gotten used to LHR and slow long distance. your LHR is what i wish i can achieve 😁
perhaps the next thing you can try is mix your runs with some short intervals, eg. 400m x 8 over a long period of time and continue your usual runs.
no expert here, just sharing what i think might help.

Your advice is correct, I noticed when I got lazy and didn't do intervals/threshold runs for 4-5 months, while still doing easy runs 3-4x per week (no decrease in mileage). What happens is that when I attempt to run a fast pace (1 min/km faster than easy run pace), it's easy to be breathless and find it hard.

But when I do those intervals/threshold run again, within 1-2 months, I get it back.

400 x 8 @ 5.30 min/km is a good start, best is to do with untimed rest first and focus on completing the sets. With more confidence, progress to 2-3 min recovery and then cut down.

Nothing wrong if that's your goal, be healthy etc. Can attempt half marathon if you want some excitement, easily can go a bit below 2hrs.
