i have question abt HR.
i am 43 n been running everyday for 5-6years.
first 2years 5-10km
3years til now 7-16km
slow daily runs abt 6.30pace my hr is abt 128 zone 2
if i push myself until wanna puke go til 5.30pace
my hr is only abt 138-144 at zone 2-3, sometimes will go z4.
am i doin something wrong here? isit hr supposed to be higher the better?
thanks for reading
If at 144 is like catching your breath or puking then very likely your Lactate Threshold HR is around there or slightly lower. Your current HR zoning is probably based on max hr that's why you thought you are at zone 3, but in reality your are in the high zone 4 and may crossed over to zone 5 if you had done your HR zoning based on Lactate Threshold HR.
To improve your lactate threshold HR, you might need to add in at least one interval training a week, or two a week if you are focusing just to improve threshold hr. Apart from that your easy run at zone 2 still need to maintain.
To answer your question, for HR zoning, for max hr, for threshold HR, the higher the better. Max hr can't be trained, but threshold hr can be trained until 90% of max HR.
But HR vs Pace, the lower the HR is better.
