Need some advise. Is it ok to run intervals in the morning like 730am on empty stomach ? Have been running in evening but need to made some changes due to work
all my runs in the morning are done without food, but its subjective (different from person to person)

as some have shared, you can take some banana prior to the runs

Mad respect for those Kenya marathon runners. Was watching some interview and everyone pb is like 2.10, 2.15 etc

I tried sprinting 100m and I get about 18sec. I checked and if I can run 100m in 18sec that 2hr 7min marathon time

Or 7min30sec for 2.4km. but they are doing it for full 42km.

If I go running on empty stomach, I will hold a bottle of 100 plus pro to drink along the way. In doing so, I will have enough protein and electrolytes for long run. Sometimes I just buy energy drinks along the way.

If you really hate to hold a bottle while running, you should consider keeping some gel or protein bar in your pocket in case needed halfway.

Marten Van Riel

T100 overall champion in 2024

Rolled his ankle while walking (not even during training), no rest and continued with his sessions as he thought nothing much about it coz not much pain. Now pecah. Ligament tore, bone marrow edema etc.

Actually how do you guys run? Do u make conscious effort on yr feet to push off to increase stride? Or just focus on moving the tibials ? Or just focus to move knees forwards?

I think shd be of no issue as long as the previous night you had fuelled sufficiently and the interval session mileage is not too long for the amount of glycogen that you think you have in your system, thus impacting your workout quality (not hitting required pace or required sets). The impact is probably higher than an easy session.

For a longer session, gels are expensive, but i find just taking about a dozen gummies and then some Pokka Fuji Apple is cool before you head out. Dont over do the Fuji Apple, maybe 150-200ml is sufficient, plus some plain water to clear the taste.
How long is the interval ? Consider short but hard.
Intending to do 4x4. Normally finish in 25 mins .

I actually wanted to put a banana in my running belt. Eat after run.
But scared overripe. So I eat before run.

Unless there are already speckles on the banana when u pack, it should not overripe? Some people even prefer banana with plenty speckles.

Can empathize with him, going to take some time to recover. Wonder which grade of ligament torn is he suffering from.

Even running under 3 hours. It is basically running 2.4km at 10 mins continuously.

interesting question. But I don’t know how to answer this as i run based on feel and move naturally, unless i have some strain on my legs or discomfort in my shoes, which then i will make minor adjustments to make myself feel more comfortable.

But I have changed over the years as i am getting older and having less and less power in my strides. My strides depend largely on the condition of my heart. If I feel good, I have the tendency to increase cadence and larger strides. The key is to get into a rhythm which legs and heart achieve a comfortable equilibrium of moving fast and feeling good without strenuous.

If I sprint at the last stretch when I have the energy, I will increase cadence and knees will go higher, with my arms swing faster.

Nowadays I am more conscious to try to land at least mid foot and forefoot whenever I can. But it will defer depending on shoes I wear and pace I run. Some shoes increase the tendency to land rear foot especially in slow paces. Some shoes will just make me land on my forefoot more naturally regardless my pace.

My advice is go out and try running in different paces and you will slowly find your natural swing and running gait most natural to yourself. Hope this helps.

If want real or natural food, I find dates to be calories dense and easy to pack. Get those huge one they have, think it's the Medjool. Can stock up during the Malay's hari raya season from supermarket and keep in the fridge for long . One date carries about 60Kcal. the Sis gel carries 87 kcal, some less dense gel carries only 60 kcal. Average good gel carries around 100kcal. So for natural food, the medjool dates is a good alternative. 4 dates and you have 200kcal, that's like carrying two good quality gel pack. If got time, you can remove the seeds and reduce the weight and volume for easy packing.

Disadvantage for runner is they are not high GI, good for diabetic though, the energy is slow release, unlike gel. So means you take it way before you feel the need for it.
