10k PB (41.38)

  • Done in hot weather yesterday
  • Self-paced
  • No carbon-plate shoes
  • Drank 1750 ml of water before running 10k
Will gun for 40.30 10k next for interval workouts after 2.4km training ends in mid november.

Very fast time! Congrats!

Yesterday tried a couple of running shoes :

Brooks Hyperion Elite 3
Asics Magic Speed 4
Asics Metaspeed Edge Paris
NB SC Trainer V3

Actually don't want to try one but my friend asked me to try so I know as no people around in store.

Well done! If only I have the same pace as you for 10km next month...

This one cfm cannot run liao

That's why the most important in running is not about the pace but not to get yourself injured and worst is till you can forget about running liao.

I saw those runners so fast. Just wondering what if they suddenly sprained and cracked their ankle 😱

Be careful of the risk from the heat. Triggered SCA (not the heat that killed)
edit - heat index 42 deg C
We do get that sometimes on warm days, warm nights heat index 36-37 deg C

I never run fast in those conditions, and even on cooler days running fast would also have active cooling.

Last Weekend Buff forest run, got some casualties for heat related injuries. Poor hydration logistic, no Isotonic (no electrolytes) , only plain water. A long duration under hot sun, above 34C.

Heat injury is worst than physical injuries. I can endure low grade pain to carry on running, but once giddiness set in, it's time to call off. Permanent damage can include brain damage and death. Fo heavy sweater with sweaty palms, one sign is suddenly your palms are dry, bad sign.

Last weekend weather brutal leh.
My kid and I woke up early and even then cycled in mostly shaded areas/roads, eg rounding Shenton/Cecil and under Keppel Viaduct went vivo la ice-cream, MBS shaded area......sun came out after 8+ we just left GBE/GBTB and went Keppel viaduct, etc. 8+ already bloody warm even if moderate intensity.

First and foremost if runners (or any exercisers) lack of water or isotonic drinks already kickstart the process. And exacerbated by personal lack of knowledge of the symptoms.
Must really auto-cut when feel not normal.....cannot push through one.

Got to put that 13.17s 100m speed to good use :ROFLMAO:

Have to figure out your race strategy.

I prefer to -ve split and use the first few km to adjust the momentum. After 5km, start to step up the pace.

I did workouts like 5km x 2 (2 minute - 2 minute 30 seconds recovery) with the first set at goal HMP and second set at goal 10k pace. Longer intervals help me more since I am bad at sustain. Conversely, if you are not as good in speed, then focus on shorter intervals but run those faster.

If you are more of a consistent runner, you can do the 5km intervals at 15k goal pace (in between HM and 10k minus 0.02-0.03 min/km to get your goal pace). Or try 2km x 5 at 10k goal pace.

As for threshold run, I did 10 minute warmup, 30 minute at 4.20 min/km pace, 10 minute cooldown. You end up covering 10+km in a single run and running close to race pace for 30 minutes.
