thanks. but i dont mean this. i mean balanced his number of reps and muscle gain. controlled eccentric and 3 reps instead of fast eccentric and 3 reps.

Do you even...

Obviously slower tempo on the eccentric means the weight will be lower

So you pull the weight downwards so it comes down faster than it would otherwise?

i find your "pull" abit funny when it's not pull.

ok, jokerk's eccentric is around 0.4 sec. i refer to 1 sec eccentric like in video.

if it's normal for strength gain, then i guess nevermind because i'm more concerned about muscle gain.

Err, wait, what?

You just contradicted yourself.

no.

fast - controlled - slow - slower - super slow.

if he means slower than jokerk's in english, then he is correct. usually "slower" in bodybuilding tempo, it is more than 4 sec.

he already said "slower tempo". so..? did you get pwned yourself?

A. I meant the former. So you pwn yourself.

B. Whether or not I meant the former or latter, the weight one can use is still lighter. In fact if I meant the latter then the weight is EVEN lighter. So you pwn yourself.

Eh, your vid's eccentric is about 1 sec & jokerk's eccentric is faster at about 0.4 sec - so the vid which you said refers to controlled eccentric is already slower than jokerk's.

We can argue & debate about semantics but time is a a very precise thing: 0.4 sec vs 1 sec - so obviously the 1 sec eccentric is slower.

yes if lee means speed, not type name of tempo.

Lee is right actually.

Jokerk's press was 95% of his 1 RM. At that kind of near max weight it is very difficult to control the negative part of the movement. If he were to do proper eccentrics eg 2-0-1, the weight would definitely have to be lighter.

u should stop derailing the thread. jokerk already explained he varies his tempo and weight according to the workout planned for the day.

What jokerk did is OK.

You seem to be discussing about rep speeds & its effects.
If you want to go into it, the eccentrics should take a longer time than concentric. But do you want to go crazy getting someone to count the seconds for you or you want to look at the mirror and clock at the same time whilst doing your reps?

And doing explosive or dynamic movements, ie. faster than the speed in your video can build mass too. Of course, by that I don't mean hurling the weight up and down but doing it under control.

Appreciate the exchange guys. Yeah I do controlled eccentric for some lifts at about 50-60% of 1 RM. Just not this one in the video.

Can't wait to squat when I get back from this holiday!

Wendler's 531 + "I Ain't Doing Jack S**t" program

Cycle 6 Week 3 Squats

Squats
135 x 5
142.5 x 3
152.5kg x 2

Personal Reflections

This program has been working well for me so far. Personally, just like nutrition, i think it is best to select a training program which is easy to adhere to for the individual.

Most of us are working individuals. We have other priorities in life. So best to make use of the time wisely on an effective program and nutrition which works towards our own personal goals.
