seiko ones should be quite good.... but they are damn ex. =.=" i actually prefer canon dictionaries but sadly, i cant seem to find it in singapore. ):

Actually if you have fren to buy it for you in Japan is much cheaper compared to buying it in Kinokuniya Sing.
A basic set would cost ard $400 (Seiko)

Get a NDS + dictionary sotware. There's a ton of Kanji learning software for the NDS as well. Can play games too.

I need some advice on the textbook Minna no Nihongo. Was thinking of purchasing the main text and the one with the grammar and translation. However there are 2 versions (Japanese and Asia Edition). Does anyone know whether they are the same and is the book helpful in anyway?

Good morning. For me, my textbook is in Chinese Edition [Printed in Taiwan]. I think the contents are the same.

Anyway, this textbook [ Minna no Nihongo] also have the Chinese Version. As for the grammar + translations, I buy both English & Chinese Version .

For my textbook, because it is printed in Taiwan, thus those Japanese words learnt from the lesson will be translated to Traditional Chinese. I am unsure for English [Asian] Edition as I don't have 1.

However, I have bought the English Textbook for lesson 14 - 25. I noticed that those Japanese words needed for the lesson are omitted.

As for the Grammar & Translations book, basically both Chinese & English versions are the same. It is just that 1 is explained in Chinese & the other, English Language. For the Chinese Version, the one I bought is printed in China, thus it is in Simplified Chinese. And yes, this Chinese version also have the textbook, but I didn't look at it.

1 thing to note is that for the Chinese Version [I mean the Grammar & Translations book], it covers Lesson 1 - 25 for book 1. For English, Book 1 covers Lesson 1 - 13, & 14 - 25 on book 2.

then sigh...found online tranlstion site not so good..used online searching for a word, then went asked sensei, she told me 2 meanings of that word but online only gave one...*pout*pout*

yeah i agree, that's my observation as well, that quite a few words that are translated online actually have more than one meaning, but only 1 meaning is provided..which is one of the reasons why im looking for a jp-english dict ^_^

think i will check out the dict. you mentioned..i was speaking to my colleague working in the jp branch/officeof my co, and one tip she gave was to watch out for the context of the sentence (esp for kanji)..think some of the seniors here mentioned something similar about that in an earlier thread as well..

I went to Kino that day to check out the books, comparing the Japanese, English and the Taiwan version, geesh didn't know there is a Chinese version. Well there is much difference in price though. Japanese version $50+, English version $18+, Taiwan version $8+... sigh wonder which one should I get.

i think the versions are more or less similar just get the english or taiwanese version. the japanese version is imported so unless u buy it in japan, it'll be quite exp over here unless u buy it during the 20% sale....

Which one do you use?I've been thinking of getting one for my DS too,but there are many choices.I'm leaning towards this:Kanji Sonomama Rakubiki Jiten. Are you using this one?Seems to be very good.
