Hi, I'm currently taking classes at Ikoma and now since it's the school holidays, I feel like doing some self-study.

Been stalking this thread for quite awhile and brought those N5 recommendations :s13:

I was wonder if anyone has any recommendations for a dictionary? My vocab is pretty limited as of now...

Thanks!

Hey guys,
From what I read, Bunka and Ikoma are good language schools, though rather pricey. I'd like to know though how is Aoba and Pyaess teaching structure like? My aim is to be able to read, speak and write, such that when I travel to Japan, I won't have a hard time. And I would also like to take the JPLT exams.

Anyone wanna try to answer this question? You will get a small prize from me if you can answer it correctly.

通常、「ある」は非情物の存在を示すときに使われ、「いる」が有情物の存在を示すときに使われる。しかし「彼には子どもがいる」を「彼には子どもがある」に置き換えられる場合がある。それはどのようなときか考えてみなさい。

Normally, 「ある」 is used to describe inanimate objects and 「いる」 is used to describe animate objects. However, there are times when 「彼には子どもがいる」 is replaceable with 「彼には子どもがある」. In what kind of situations would such replacements happen.

Hey dimitri_can, thanks for the lesson. Really something different, feels more like a study grp than class. Relaxing, rather fun, more interactive. Lessons are in depth too, awesome!

Let me try.

「彼には子どもがいる」
Although we know this sentence as 'He has a child'
This describes the 'temporary' position of where the child is.
いるis originally used to describe the position of xxx at a certain time
e.g, 私は学校にいる
'AにXがいる'describes 'X is at A'

「彼には子どもがある」
This describes the fact of the existence of the child. The subject is not on 'him' or 'the child'.
Xがある describes the existence of X, wherever it may be.

I'm not good in explaining, hope you understand, and hope my understanding is correct.
