Intel CEO, Brian Krzanich, along with Michael Dell made a surprise announcement at Intel Developer Forum this morning with the unveiling of what is claimed to be the world's thinnest tablet, the Dell Venue 8 7000.

The upcoming tablet measures only 6mm in thickness and will come equipped with an Intel Atom Z3500 processor. It is also the first Android tablet to feature Intel's RealSense 3D camera that enhances photography by creating a high-definition depth map to enable measurement of objects and refocus of images (similar effect as Lytro's light field digital camera). Intel expects RealSense to change how tablets are used while opening up a new creative horizon for developers to come up with apps that gives consumers new ways to engage with their photos.

The Dell Venue 8 7000 also features an edge-to-edge 8.4-inch OLED screen with 2K (2560x1440) resolution.

Full specifications were not revealed and neither do we have pricing details. But according to Michael Dell, the new device will be available in November, in time for the holiday season.

New tablet - i thought was the old 1 all along :o

RealSense 3D camera is so small that you could even fit it into a small tablet device such as the Dell Venue 8 7000!

Actually this Intel RealSense 3D camera could be a double edge sword.

Though it can use its infrared camera and laser projector to measure depth and shot pictures with more security, it can also pose more security and privacy issue if hackers managed to crack it. I don't wish someone else to be watching me in 3D with all my info secretly over the web without my consent... :look:

Focusing on objects made easy!

Editing Capabilities
The fact that the RealSense Snapshot camera on the Venue 8 7000 tablet struggles with accuracy and consistency does not negate the fact that the camera has other virtues that consumers might enjoy.

For example, when you take a photo, you can adjust the focus after the fact. From the Gallery (a feature of the Venue 8 7000’s feature set that Dell has been keen to highlight), you tap a photo to edit it and then tap the focus icon. After the tablet’s processor thinks it over for a moment, you’ll enter the focus mode. Tap anywhere on the image, and it will focus on that specific person, place or thing. Using the slider at the bottom of the screen, you can adjust the intensity of the focus and blur.

I think they will have safeguard measures la. Like how the LED light will be lit when the webcam is active.

Anyway in the first place unless you are some celeb, i dont think anybody will want to use and take depth photos of you.
