Firstly, the modules variety is lacking and the prices are absurb.

Secondly, the battery is rather subpar (2800mAh?).

Thirdly (and most important problem to me), only Europe has an unlocked bootloader, and all regions have an additional kernel level lock that can brick your phone easily if you try to root the phone.

So yea, G5 is a major turn off to me.

Kinda sad about the news. I bought this phone just for the sole reason that it has removable battery. I am even still using Galaxy S4 which was 3 years ago. Everything still works perfect. Just pop in a new battery with custom ROM and all is fine~

Just hoping that the ridiculous pricing for the DAC would drop and I am good to go.

Actually the hybrid slot is 4G capable, but the phone can only have 1 active 4G/3G connection at a time. The other SIM will be 2G.

Can i check with you -

If my sim1 is sg sim and sim2 is overseas sim,
I can set to use 4G on sim1 when in sg and just tap in settings to change to 4G in sim2 when overseas OR
Do i have to switch the sim cards manually - e.g remove sg sim frm sim1 and insert overseas sim when travelling?

its still 1440p though, and the reduction is literally the screen being physically 4% smaller in the G5 compared to the G4/G3. I think most people would consider that trivial. Lots of other phones like the S7 and HTC 10 put 1440p resolution in even smaller screens.

No need to swap slots. Just go settings and choose which sim to use mobile data with.

haha, this sort of thing also sometimes stifles innovation. if everyone all go for the same Samsung and iPhone like design and LG no longer continues or improves upon the modularity, all phones will end up like the same industrial minimalistic metal unibody design like Samsung and apple.

Although LG design is not so nice plus the paint on the metal doesn't have the premium feel but I still laud it for the innovation of modularity (I only have the dac which is good) and the ability for replaceable batteries (something that is really useful and sadly no longer around)

Also the wide angle macro camera. I know some feel its gimmicky but I like it for scenary shots.

In my opinon, the lack of innovation will be the real pity if all the above disappears and LG just follows the others to churn out the same type of phone as everyone else next year

I thought going down to 5.3 is a sweet spot. if it can go smaller it's even better. I know that every new generation there must have improvement but I don't think that bigger screen is a "improvement" feature. otherwise 2 years later all of our hand will be holding a 6 inches phone? who really want to hold such a large phone when you can barely hold it in your hand. I used both G4 & G5. G4 is nice but too wide to hold on one hand sometimes, G5 is good to hold but design is not as attractive as G4. if only they introduce G5 in G4 Beat size.....

i like that they slimme down the G5 size cos with a phablet already there (V10), having the G series also big screen feels like a bit of redundancy.

If this is a sign that LG is doing phablet size together with regular size (just like samsung S and Note series or Apple's iPhone/iPhone plus) I think its good for consumer choice variety. Some companies like Asus with their latest zenfones dont even offer anything below 5.5 inches for all their 3 latest models.

5.7" main screen + that tiny low resolution 0.2" Secondary display is a turnoff for me!

Playing game and video watching are kind of not "full screen" due to the 0.2" secondary display at the side!

You want big phablet display, you dont want onscreen button to take up screen space, you dont want a secondary display on top... eh why are you LG customer? Buy a galaxy note, it ticks all your requirements
