Yeah agree.. I'm planning to get the G6 until Note 8 is released in Q3. Saw some Youtubers reviewing and comparing the G6 to some phones and the camera looks really awesome despite the average specs. They keep saying it's pre-production unit so there may be changes in the final unit. I wonder what are the possible changes? Software they mean? Hardware specs should be fixed I guess? Hoping for a bump in the camera mega pixel then it's pretty much the perfect phone for my usage.

Front camera I meant. It's a drop from G5 8mp to 5mp. Didn't think mega pixel would matter to me but when I used G5 and V20, I loved the details with 8mp on G5 whereas the V20 gave a softer look. The probablity of that happening is quite high and the screen retention issue. Beware that LG will claim that screen retention is not under LG warranty coverage!

megapixels count doesnt necessarily guarantee image quality. want the best example look at HTC One M9 its camera was 20MP and the image quality of that was unspectacular. They learned their lesson and dropped to 12MP for the HTC 10 the next year.

I heard the V20 selfie cam is wide angle, maybe that has something to do with the perceived softness. wide angle usually introduces a bunch of effects like barrel distortion

I knew the G5 wasnt going to be a worthy camera upgrade to my G4 but maybe the G6 stood a chance and I think it really is finally getting the low light upgrade that the G5 deserves

EXIF puts this at 1/14s shutter speed, easily beyond what I can manage with shooting handheld manual at night which I consider to be the most extreme shooting scenario cos you have no tripod and really need to steady the device as best you can.

For reference this is my G4's night shooting handheld manual mode at my personal limit (1/3 second shutter)

If the G6 can really have a faster lens and pull off similar low light quality at beyond 1/10s shutter speed, taking photos at night is really going to be so much easier (and I still wouldnt trust LG's auto mode but at least I dont have to be a statue for 1/3 of a second to take a shot) and that is at least praise worthy.

The problem is that the competition has already caught up of course, and Huawei/Samsung can probably easily match this level of camera performance. Low light performance seems to have already plateaued as no one wants to put bigger sensors due to the obsession with thin phones.

There was a press release made by them on 26/01/2016 to android authority, after a change.org petition from XDA surfaced to raise awareness.


The problem is that they were slow (by about 2-3 months). For comparison, during the 2015 'staingate' incident of Apple's retina macbook screens, Apple took almost a similar length of time to acknowledge the issue, after facing a potential class action lawsuit and even a whole website to represent the 'victims'.

For me I find it okay as long as the price it right, since I don't use wireless charging or the Quad DAC.. If they increase the RRP and still have these restrictions... Then a bit hard to swallow for an LG phone.
