Got retrenched recently and stressing up over living well in Singapore.:o I am considering moving my parents and myself to jb and would like to seek inputs to assess if it is feasible and sustainable to stay in jb?:o I am 41 and parents are in their 70/80s.:o I intend to rent whole unit hdb to finance the expenses in jb and parents will sell off their hdb and we will use that amount to get a property in jb.:o please input.:o

Can rent first, no need to buy. R yr Sg props fully paid? Rental income is counted towards rm10k income requirement for mm2h. Maybe u and yr parents can retire there also?

I think u have been talking about going jb retire for many years.

Why u still in sg and still posting this lol

I am thinking of semiretiring there now with S$5500/mth passive income from Sg sources and more from a possible cafe investment there.

I heard there are many Malaysians living and retiring in Singapore who rather live and retire in HDB flats than the big landed properties in Malaysia. That tells us very much about something isn't it?

i have a gd friend who has a beautiful house in m'sia. 3 waterfalls, pond n lovely design. he works in sg--rents an apartment at the grange/paterson area.
cos kids, preferable to study in sg. but retirement will go back msia. he says its quite ok in msia. if you want to be flashy then pay for security. if not, its fine.

Did you just come up with this idea due to your retrenchment/desperation or you have this planned out for some time already? Is that your own decision or you have already aligned with your parents about the thoughts.

It does make a big difference whether you are mentally prepare for the culture difference between the two states? Just like what others have other commented, why not just rent out both the HDB flats and rent a place in JB to try it out first before deciding whether to buy a property that you may ended up regretting. You should only consider purchasing a Property there if you are very sure that you are going to stay there for long.

I see quite a few cases when people simply purchase without proper thinking and planning, ended up stuck with the property due to the poor demand due to the 1M cap imposed on foreigner property purchase. As Singaporean, i am not sure whether you are aware on the rule for foreigner property purchase. I think its going to be very important for you to know about the property ruling imposed on foreigners if you are seriously thinking to buy one.

Personally, i am planning to move there for my future retirement and I think I am quite well blended into the environment since i have stay there in the past before and I am travelling frequently across the causeway almost every weekend. But for your case, with your parents, it might take further considerations.

Everyone has their own preference on their personal backup/retirement plan, so for me, i am just planning for my own rainy day in case i got retrench or decided to call it a day. However, if your decision is purely based on the spur of the moment, i will seriously advise you to think twice.

All the best to your next possible job opportunity.

Thanks for all the sincere advise and inputs. :o I thought of all these due to my retrenchment. :o I have always wanted to retire and just live in Singapore and I believe my parents do as well. :o I am contemplating because I just want to stretch our rental income dollars to bring better benefit and quality of lifestyle to my family. :o I am unsure if this will be true and this is why I seek opinions from you all. :o I certainly do not want to retire at this age but I am really facing resistance and headwinds in getting a job interview. :o

We have 5 big ensuite mostly bedrooms. Or maybe that is a bad idea for security reasons.

Did u even ask your parents if they want to leave their country of 70 years to migrate to a high crime rate place, f up government, corrupt police, etc. Personal safety issues, medical issues, etc didn't cross your mind?

Not sure if your father would like to give u a big slap and wake you up so that u can start finding another job? Retrenched only talk until like want to kamikaze with your family together?
