Hi,

After activated Data Passport, do my phone need to change any settings? Like enable Data Roaming and select Telco or so.

Or I can just immediately use as per in Singapore when I reached the destination?

Thanks.

Yes you need to turn on data roaming, otherwise how you get data.

Fully agree with cpuer. It's up to you and how you wanna surf.

Not everyone is on m1

Doesn't make sense once u have more than one person with multiple devices. Thetering drains battery too.

I would buy prepaid cards if I didn't have my mifi to use. Usually as a solo traveler, my consumption is quite low. Not exceeding 200mb a day.

That's why I think it's about the price point and requirements. If I can provide a device at a sufficient price point, with sufficient service . why not ?

Erm, what he's saying is not exactly the same as what you're hinting at. Yes we get that you have a device to offer which may do a better job than other providers.

What cpuer is trying to say is that is speed really that impt to you when travelling? Of course you made valid comparisons, a group of 4 travelling would definitely benefit from the mifi than a data roaming service.

Thanks guys.. Will try in Nov for my next HK trip.

The price of $12 is really cheap as compare buying a prepaid data in Japan. It was about S$50 for 1gb or so when I was at Kansai in 2014.

If i get it i will start to save up on my data usage before travelling. And even if you over shoot also not that ex for $10/GB

Thanks for sharing. Appreciate the info.

Good to collect data points like this. Helps to better understand the service.

And no misinformation intended. Just summarising and providing the other scenarios where it may not payoff.

I don't believe in hardselling or selling a product that is excessive. What i think is necessary, is a good hard objective assessment of requirements. Both of the service required and of the service provider. Neither exists at this moment.

I've always told my customers when prepaid is cheaper or in some cases, cut my price to match prepaid :)

Happy for competition.

I wanted to activate for my upcoming trip to Fukuoka this weekend, but seems like I can't do so as I'm on a retired plan (iPhone plan) and have to recontract first. :(

You don't need to sign another contract technically. Can just ask them to change your plan will do. That's what happened to me also.

By right roaming subscription is automatically enabled once you subscribe for data passport. Maybe you can clarify with M1 and ask them to waive off the charge since you couldn't use.

Just rang up M1 about the Roaming settings on the phone.

CS said data roaming need to be turned on while using, else off it. All these settings are on the phone.

Of coz, services need to be activated beforehand.

Yes, you need to set m1 partners' network as preferred network and turn off automatic network selection mode.

m1 does have the network lock service you'll be able to activate once you're subscribed to the service. But even with the network lock service, you'll still need to go thru the settings alteration.

Once you touch down, turn on the phone and search for network operator and select Softbank as your preferred connection. Rest will be auto.

But what i know is only base on what i've read from m1 site, i could be wrong.

https://www.m1.com.sg/Personal/RoamingAndInternationalCalls/GoingOverseas/DataRoaming/ActivateAndDeactivateNetworkLock

how long it takes to activate the service?
