Anyone tried this service in Australia? Going to Perth next month but not sure if Vodafone is a good network there.

Btw please take note of your own billing cycle, if need to, just request for a change in billing cycle over the phone before activating the service.

Change billing cycle will tio any one-time charges or not? :s11:

Hi all,

Just to share my experience over the past few days with M1 datapassport here in USA.

I had activated M1 datapassport (USA) together with network lock before coming to Dallas, Texas.

Ever since landed in Los Angeles airport and after transiting to Dallas, I have switched on my phone and got connected to T-Mobile with 4G successfully.

HOWEVER, I HAVE NOTICED THE BROWSING/FB/EMAIL TAKES LIKE FOREVER. So I decided to monitor for next couple of days to see if it was temporary but 3 days later I still found the performance the same.

I tethered to my iPhone from my macbook and did a traceroute to www.google.com and showed as follows:

traceroute to www.google.com (216.58.200.100), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets
1 172.20.10.1 (172.20.10.1) 25.728 ms 11.471 ms 2.540 ms
2 * * *
3 172.31.250.18 (172.31.250.18) 289.865 ms 299.684 ms *
4 202.65.244.57 (202.65.244.57) 299.688 ms 359.039 ms 303.308 ms
5 * 202.65.244.15 (202.65.244.15) 316.690 ms *
6 37.246.65.202.unknown.m1.com.sg (202.65.246.37) 281.721 ms 297.583 ms 402.271 ms
7 * 21.246.65.202.unknown.m1.com.sg (202.65.246.21) 294.333 ms *
8 * 15169.sgw.equinix.com (27.111.228.30) 317.760 ms *
9 * 209.85.243.156 (209.85.243.156) 297.442 ms 296.889 ms
10 209.85.242.29 (209.85.242.29) 293.170 ms 309.671 ms 315.118 ms
11 sin01s19-in-f4.1e100.net (216.58.200.100) 302.827 ms 287.806 ms 309.116 ms

SpeedTest.net results showed 498ms (Latency), 0.94Mbps (Down), 0.56Mbps (Up)

My public IP address showed 119.56.115.121 which according to https://www.iplocation.net/ the address is registered under MobileOne Singapore.

So all my traffic were FIRST go to Singapore then RETURN back to USA..

Conclusion: I am guessing M1 have setup a tunnel gateway in USA by partnering with T-Mobile to allow M1 customers with datapassport subscription to point to that gateway when registered under T-Mobile network instead of using T-Mobile LTE network locally hence all my traffic were going to Singapore first then come back to USA which explained why the latency was so bloody high and the up/downlink speed is no where near average 4G LTE speed.

Just to share with everybody that I am very very very disappointed with M1 Datapassport......

Geographically speaking HK is very near to SG so it may not be as bad as what I have showed here in USA.

The typical latency from SG to HK is around 35ms so it may worth giving it a try! :)

I used the M1 Data Passport in Germany and Austria last Dec. My connection through T-Mobile was good and stable. I could even setup a hotspot for 2 other devices.

used it in Bali near Kuta area. It is terrible, connection is very slow and often can't get through. Waste of money.
