Hi,

Anybody has tried activating the data passport on the free 1 GB data SIM that came with M1 Fibre (https://www.m1.com.sg/Personal/BUNDLES AND PROMOTIONS/Promotions/Bundle Promotion/PKG206158)?

Hi, tried this from personal experience during my trip last Aug and it worked. Used the M1 App to activate data passport and network lock before I left and cancelled it when I returned, cost was $12. When I was there, I also manually selected the Softbank 3G network and I would say the coverage is pretty good (at least around Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka). Tethering was also fine but I didn't try for long periods (>1hour).

Btw please take note of your own billing cycle, if need to, just request for a change in billing cycle over the phone before activating the service.

Let's say my trip is from the 13th to the 19th and my billing cycle starts on the 14th. Does it mean I'll have to pay $20 instead of $10 for the Data Passport service?

Thanks fourqkia. That's useful information. I will use it for my next month's trip to Thailand. :)

Regretted subscribing to this plan for use here in Taipei.

Connection is so poor that I could only text in WhatsApp. Downloading of pics on WhatsApp took me forever. Calls thru the app was frustrating with long delay and poor quality audio.

Google search and Map are not possible.

I dun get a 3G connection BTW.

Better and cheaper to pay 180NT (
S$8) for a 1GB plan with ChungHwa telco here than S$12 M1 passport that is a big let down.

yeah, if your service starts on 13th, then it'll be 2 months subscription for your trip :o

That sounds terrible. Anybody has any feedback on Thailand (DTAC) and Philippines (Globe Telecom)?

Just make a compare to the prepaid data avaliable at taiwan with the data passport.

Bought a 6 or 7 days unlimited 3G data plan prepaid over there where u can hotspot.

7 days unlimited still cheap and their network flies, ours crawl in Singapore.
Really downgrade us to 3rd world speed.

I think for those using M1 data passport (Softbank), it is good to use their free WIFI service too. Does not requires an app installed. Only need to dial Softbank toll free number to get the password after connected to their network. Could connect up to 5 devices. Not sure if it works on device not connected to their network but connecting to WIFI should be non-network dependent?

Anyone in Japan to try it out? Will only be there in mid Feb. ^^;
