From a price point standpoint, seems to be a yes.

but the question is whether you have a use case for it within the lifetime of using it

if your answer is no, then don’t bother, it will end up being a white elephant.

Base model with 10Gbe ordered on 16th January, finally received today.
Swapped out the SSD immediately with the 2TB module (SGD 273 including GST and shipping) I got from TaoBao. :cool::cool:

Glad I did not do the upgrade to 512 GB with apple

Apple intelligence working well, lets hope it stays this way and it should last me for years to come ;)

so u need to install the mac os onto this ssd, right?

whats the use case for apple intelligence? wondering how i can best make use of this lol

Well, my first day with it. I can select text and ask it to help proof read, make my report concise and so on. Not sure if that works when MacOS is on external disk. I heard it doesn’t.

I have ChatGPT subscription so it’s integrated.
besides I hate the nudging feeling that something is not working/have to sacrifice some function to make external SSD work. Moving personal files over to external will break the iCloud sharing, which I need as I have multiple devices.

hence this upgrade is very worth it to me

Watch the videos posted above. Very easy job. Initial step of popping open the cover is scary but after that it’s very straight forward.
All the Torx bits can be found easily. I got them all in the xiaomi screwdriver kit.

You will need a Mac though to restore via DFU

If I were to attach a let's say 2TB external SSD. Can I partition 1TB for Time Machine and the other 1TB for additional storage for personal use?
