a counple of questions

1) if i have intel i5 with 256SSD and a 1TB 2nd hhd. Should i update to Yosemite? i am fine with the current set up. i know that program wise might need some time to catch up to yosemite.

2) external HHD on mac and windows. i have an older 55GB hhd that is formated with exfat. i can't remember using windows machine or a mac machine to do it. howeverm on the mac.. the file transfer is realy slow... is that normal?

Any beta software are not supposed to install on production machine due to unforeseen bugs which probably you need to do is to - Internet Recovery.

BTW, why not install Yosemite on external HDD to test?

no it can't. i hate anything made in java so never bother using jd.
but what type of download process has captcha involved?

many file download sites have captcha and 30s countdown, etc

Jdown can handle all this for you. it can group the files and extract for you too.

thats what I like about it.

Hi
I have got a EMC2211 24" iMac and wants to upgrade to an SSD. I have been searching online in regards to the kind of SSD that is compatible with it an searches come up with the older Samsung 830 SSDs. I was thinking of getting a 500GB Samsung 840 Evo, wondering if this is compatible. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I have a mid-2009 MBP with bloated battery.

Is it worth upgrading it from 4gb to 16gb RAM?

Or should just get a new MBP?

Seems to be real laggy recently.. Using OS Mavericks

same model as u

i change battery, up ram to 8gb (16gb not worth that time) and changed hdd to 7200rpm version.

the situation improved a lot. if always laggy could be hdd failing.

Where did you get yours changed?
I'm thinking of getting the dual drive with SSD.

Saw the pricing from "budget macbook upgrade" and 16gb is around $330, dual drive bracket is $130. SSD for 120Gb is $260

Not sure if the pricing is reasonable or let me know if got better deals!

Thanks!

i changed on my own. mbp 2009 is very user upgradable compared to the retina version as ours do not include any hot glue.

so basically i pay part prices only. batt $65, ram about $80, hdd about $120??, something like that. basically what you see in sls pricing

why u need 16gb ram?, SSD is fast but small capacity.

Oh.. I'm not very IT savvy! Not really confident to change myself.

The prices seems really affordable!

I just thought since 16gb is out in the market, might as well just buy that to upgrade to the best. But i saw from OWC website, mid 2009 seems to be able to support up to 8gb only. They dont sell 16gb for mbp 2009 versions.

I'm using this mbp mostly for photo editing and design works. Photoshop and illustrator are the 2 most often used softwares.

then I think a bigger HDD for scratch disk is more important than SSD speed right?

anyway, u can check your ram usage to decide if you need 16gb, i would say 8gb is more than enough.

its not difficult to change ram, hdd and battery on your own.

Go to ifixit they will probably have all the information and guides you need to change parts etc.

If you are very afraid to change, you can buy the parts, then go Sim Lim and ask shop to change for you. They will charge you a small fee and it will take less than 10 mins on the spot. So you can see how they do it and know that nothing is wrong.

Upgrade to SSD first. Mavericks is optimized to run with SSD.
If after upgrade you still find it pretty laggy, then consider RAM. Do note that 8GB is actually quite a lot for a normal use system. ;)
