Have a external HDD in FAT32, trying to reformat it into NTFS so that I can access it and also edit the things that are stored in it. However, error in erasing : Unable to unmount disk.

Mac os X can read both NTFS and FAT32 file systems. However, if u use NTFS, you will not be able to write to the HDD if it is NTFS format. I would recommend that you stick to FAT32 if u want to work using the HDD...

I've just managed to format it in MAC OS Extended (Journaled) using Disk Utility. Would I be able to write onto it then? What is this format?

The HDD was in FAT32, was funny thing was everytime I retrieve something from it and tried to write it, I get the error message: The file is read-only.
