just received my order of refurbished macbook air (2011) 2 weeks ago, does it qualify for the free upgrade to mountain lion ? Cant find any information on refurbished set in apple website.

Probably not. The keynote did say NEW Macbook, not refurb. But no harm giving Apple a call to find out.

Yes won't have any snapshots of the VM. which means u can't pause it. you got to shut it down.

However it's at least better this way for me. up to individual preferences.

Yes creating bootcamp and doing an image via parallel also uses space.

To me the downside about bootcamp is u need to commit the space you set aside for windows from the start and to make changes(OSX to recover space from windows, you probably need to wipe everything and redo).

Nope. To wipe space is easy too.

Go over to your Windows 7 and open the disc management or right click 'my computer' and click managed.

Shrink the bootcamp drive. that empty space you can merge it to HFS+

Refurbs don't count as new, so I am afraid you won't be getting the free upgrade.

Refurbs are also mac that is sold in apple store. They are also eligible for upgrades

anyone knows whther is it the battery of mac book pro is good??
On the spec it wrote 7 hours..but does that mean standby?> so let say if I watch movie, battery may decline to 2 or even 1 hours..

Can also pls gimme some comparison for battery life bet mac book pro and normal window laptop.

i7 if you need to run processor-intensive programs like movie-editing software or photoshop. If it is just for normal word processing / surfing and the like, i5 will suit your needs just fine, and you will likely see very little benefit from upgrading to i7.

I use a Pentium laptop running at 1.7Ghz for work and school, "not very long ago"

I am looking to purchase MBA but idk 128gb or 256gb drive because I am on a tight budget.

My school requires us to use windows so they will install bootcamp and windows7 in it and they want a minimum 80GB on windows. I don't know if it is sufficient or not.
Do you think its possible if I save my data for school on external hard drive instead. Would this make room for other programs?

Because I generally use my laptop for browsing purposes, in school for presentation, doing programming, websites and thats all.

Would 128GB hdd be sufficient for bootcamp and with another help of HDD (for keeping school files)?

I kinda need answer asap

128GB - 12GB(mac osx) = 116GB left.

If you are going to make 80GB for bootcamp. THen why get a Macbook air?

You can either install Paragon HFS+ or other free tools like HFS Explorer (read only)

Yeah. In OSX, click on finder (the top left hand corner)--> preferences --> check the show hard disk box. This will show your drives (including boot camp partition) on your desktop. You can then click on the icon and view the files in that folder.

If you need so much space, may as well go 13" macbook pro. That's $1500 after edu discount, then maybe see if you want to replace the ODD with a small SSD (but together with parallels and windows, expect the final cost to reach around $2k).

If this is the case, then may want to consider just going for a cheap windows laptop that comes bundled with office.
