There are some substance abusers and ex drug addicts who really repent and try their best to live a decent life. Everyone can comment this and that but no way we can feel their pain and struggles..

Some of them can no longer receive the forgiveness or reconcile with their loved ones anymore despite working very hard to live a decent life.

I guess that depends on what charges the prosecution wants to file. In this case they did not charge him with murder so yeah the judge's hands are tied.

Not an expert in criminal law but based on my knowledge in contract law, it is not uncommon to set precedent rulings.

Wow, if that is the case, then those murderers who grew up in abusive homes should also have their sentence mitigated. The mother was an accessory to murder/manslaughter, she could have very well handed her daughter back to her mother to be taken care of. Instead, she used her daughter as a convenient punching bag for herself and boyfriend. That poor little girl must had been living in terror and pain every single day for over 1 year before she passed away. Where is the justice for her?
