What if they repaired. Then rioters destroy again. Then repair again, destroy again... etc. Lose lose?

Negative rental reversion, no tenants, etc. Can only spiral downwards?

I cannot understand why investors like to catch falling knives. Can they predict when the riots and protests may end? Why not wait for the riots and protest to end then buy when there is an uptick... sure - one could not catch the lowest price when the market rallies after protests end but can one definitely catch the bottom when the stock is plunging? He would end up holding a stock that is dropping with no bottom in sight in the second scenario whereas in the first scenario, he has already seen the bottom.

nah. one can nv know when is the bottom until the price has shot up again. by then the boat has sailed...

but i agree on not putting money in until one can see some clarity.

money hard to earn

When their basic needs (eg no money) become threatened due to economy crisis, they will stop all these eventually

On the contrary, they may get more extreme as there is nothing to lose then. Somehow, the Chinese would not give way as that may enbolden other states to protest to get their way. All these may well end with martial law and the Chinese military moving in to enforce. That would be an alert for me to start picking some buys in the HK mkt.

that's why I'll wait for better opportunities before buying...

HK won't just disappear into thin air and all the HK companies become worthless just because of this riot.

It is difficult to see HK back to its former glory. Besides, Mapletree NAC isn't exactly at a bargain price now.

HK will recover.

Even horse face still want to list his Alimama at HKSE at this chaotic moment.

Are HKSE indices and property prices crashing?

Valuation of HK stocks would suffer but markets have a tendency to over react. In any case, when this is over, the companies with strong balance sheet and investment moat would survive and potentially thrive during rebuilding. This is where chance favours the brave and the smart. Those smart enough to read the macro variables, and pick good companies may make good $.

Quote from the edge by OCBC: seems like loss of income from rental and damage on assets are claimable from insurance company, hence minimal impact

In particular, they have identified two types of coverages the mall has under its belt – a policy on physical damage with an adequate sum covered, as well as business interruption insurance which covers the loss of rental income.

“MNACT has initiated the process for claims and a site inspection has already been carried out by the insurers,” says the team in a report on Thursday.
“However, given that there would likely be a backlog of claims from other affected parties amid city-wide disruptions, we believe it would take time before any reimbursement is done,” it adds.

In the near term, the analysts also note that MNACT appears confident that the incident has limited impact on its FY20 financials. This is despite a lack of visibility on exactly how long the mall – which closed on Tuesday amid city wide disruptions – will remain closed for.”
