ac88u link aggregation to managed 802.3ad switch or not?

Hello,
I intend to buy the this router (rt -ac88u) and would like to create a 2Gbit link aggregate it with a 802.3ad L2 managed switch like vagus1978.
I contacted Asus Support and they told me below the rt-ac88u supports 802.3ad with a L2 managed switch.
Please can somebody help confirm as conflicting information from the vendor Asus and post here where the rt ac88u does not link aggregate with a l2 managed switch only proprietary 802.3ad NASes.

[Problem Description]
Hi Asus,
I intend to buy the RT AC88U and wanted to know if it supports bonding/link aggregation to a Cisco SG300 (managed network switch). I have read on forums that the bonding/link aggregation implementation on the AC88U is proprietary so cannot create a bond/link aggregation to managed network
switches. Please could you provide me clarification on bonding/link aggregation
Implementation. on the AC88U and if it supports link /aggregation to a network managed switch?? Thank you,

Hi chillipepa,

Since RT-AC88U works on lacp passive mode, src-dst-mac hash algorithm, It may need your L2 managed switch to work on lacp active mode to create the link aggregation.

Thanks.

Hi colincjw,

Do you enable the AiProtection, Adaptive Qos or Traffic Analyzer option? If yes, please try to turn off them and check the speed again.

Thank.

Hi ASUS,

I've enabled AiProtection before, QoS and Traffic Analyser was off. I've disabled all the options in the AiProtection page (which I presume would switch it off) however the speed is still not improving for download.

There is nothing we can assist you, as your country isn't same ISP from Singapore and we can't debug your issue in Singapore.

Just bought AC RT-5300 and the internet speed and WIFI coverage is as good as the default Singtel Router. Other than a slightly faster and stable speed on 5G (170DL, 400UL), No increase in coverage and LAN speed (650 DL, 880 UL). I have disabled what needs to be disabled, I'm on 1Gbps fibre plan. Pretty pissed off buying this.

Already flashed to the latest firmware and still the same.

Hi attica! Install java and test using the singtel utilities instead :p don't use oakla speed test lol.

Evildoctor,

Just go ahead and purchase this router.

It's working very stable and unlike the infamous RT-AC87U.

Any upcoming major update? Still holding back my purchase on this router due to 87u phobia.

i agree with poor_poor, ac88u is unlike ac87u... I have an ac5300 now, and i have also tested ac88u before, ac88u is definitely much more stable than ac5300 if the comparison to you matters.. :D

Ya I think 88 is just same as 5300 ba if you don't need that extra 5ghz band. Ac88 is also good if you are a wired lan mania.. so many ethernet ports sia. Whoa renfred you sold off ur 3200??

yeah, sold off my ac3200 at a great loss man, cos used it for only 10 months. It was a stable and good router, but the ac5300 temptation is simply too strong..

ac5300 will have an edge over ac3200, but if you ask me, i will say honestly, ac5300 wifi performance is not as stable as ac3200, but definitely faster in terms of latency, handshake timing etc..

Thanks.

Thank you ASUS@SG,

My L2 managed switch is a Cisco SG300 (20 port model)

I have searched online for documentation but cannot definatly tell if it supports as you say lacp active mode, - I found below article to configure link aggregation on the l2 switch:

SG300 Link Aggregate Group (LAG) Configuration on 200/300 Series Managed Switches

Click the respective radio button of the desired algorithm in the Load Balance Algorithm field. Load Balancing is a method that maximizes throughput on a network to optimize resource usage.

• MAC Address — Load balancing is performed based on the source and destination MAC addresses of all packets.

• IP / MAC Address — Load balancing is performed based on the source and destination IP addresses of IP packets and by the source and destination MAC addresses on non-IP packets.

Can you tell if Cisco SG300 supports lacp active mode?

Hi chillipepa,

RT-AC88U will support lacp active mode soon, so no matter your Cisco SG300 works on lacp passive or active mode, the link aggregation could be created.

Thanks,
Alex
