I presume TEK provides one year free servicing? You can consider the 30-50k package to align with the three years warranty.

After that can just service outside.

Yes, you raise a very valid suggestion, i.e. if I intend to service my car outside after the 3 years warranty cover is up.

But I intend to keep my options open to extend the warranty to the 5th year. The 2 year extended warranty cost $999, which IMO is fairly reasonable based on the critical components that are covered in the warranty, though I have to agree that Mazda parts are fairly reliable.

As for the servicing package, so far the feedback I got is that 50% discounted servicing package is reasonable. The pain is to pay this amount upfront.

If I average the total servicing + warranty cover over the next 4 years it would cost (1229+999)/4= $557 per year - the price to pay to get peace of mind for next 4 years.

I suppose it is like buying "insurance". If nothing happens, retrospectively it would seen as very costly. If something happens, you are glad you bought it. :)

It is actually for 2 years only - Yr 4 & 5. I was quoted the same on last Saturday.

Servicing do outside quite cheap. Eg. Autoworld now got promotion - castrol 0w20 $119. For warranty I am contemplating getting from Ricardo or QBE. will get a quote from them once warranty finish. Should be in the range of $400 per year though have to understand from them the components covered.

LoL... i service outside is only like $110-150 per servicing.

Service outside 4 years also won't hit $2100.

Warranty is overhyped...Unless it covers everything wear and tear, such warranty is worthless.

4 & 5th year, the most likely damaged items are your absorbers and aircon compressor. If your car is 200,000K already, you might need to worry else...

Depending on mileage used. A new a/c compressor and 1 new set of absorbers also won't hit $2000.

Your consideration is sound.

Although need to keep in mind based on current mileage, you may have to consider doing 80k, 90k and 100k with TEK as well. I think you can still do your servicing outside while getting warranty coverage with TEK.

My last car was a continental car and I paid about $1200 for extended warranty for 4th and 5th year. And I was glad I did because I encountered some major issues in the 4th year and the repair cost was pretty hefty and went way way beyond $1200 ...

If I remember correctly, I was told you need to do servicing with TEK to enjoy their extended warranty.

Conti and JDMs are quite different in build & spare parts availability.

Most Contis starts to show problems in their 5th year which is why most owners starts to sell at the 5th year mark.

JDMs on the other hand would tend to show problems during first year and mostly would be quite severe. If not, it hardly gives issue(s) except for the regular wear & tear.

Additionally, there are stockists for JDM parts available and easily found in singapore. The application of extended warranty doesn't really come into play here when you compare conti vs JDMs
