Short answer is poor strategic planning.

Medium term answer is the cross country line which is 6 trailer and should help alleviate some congestion and ease travel to the edges of the island.

Long answer is we should look at long term land use and plan our train lines accordingly. Having to change a feeder bus for every train ride is not really a good experience as it adds time to the commute. If we are to increase housing density in existing mrt NSEW areas after the initial 99 year lease houses are due then we need a solution (maybe parallel track for express trains) to better improve transport speed and experience.

Its planned to fail.
By building the station underground, you can't expand the platforms.
Now people have to deal with PAP's failures.

So, just do it like East West line
You can use the small cutesy trains for first few years cos nobody but years later when there's jam packed crowds, you know there's a problem
Yeah case in point is the circle line. They really should had make it 4 trainset capable.

THE ONE SINGLE SOLUTION TO 90% OF OUR PROBLEMS IS TO HAVE A SMALLER POPULATION

I.E. LESS FOREIGNERS

That comes to mind
I'm not sure are the cutesy trains same width as the ones for East West lines
If so they can't put in the latter trains

But guess they can easily buy longer trains for those lines PROVIDED they can use longer trains for those tracks

ALL the lines other than East West North South lines use the small cutesy trains and hence small platforms

It's so obvious cos the older trains you need some time to walk from.one end to the other but not for all the later lines

Cat is actually contributing to the problem by clogging up the roads and increasing the need to maintain or build new roads.

Yes new roads are getting built

Thank god my road tax being put to use

Do you find some line got a problem?
eg NEL, it’s already fully packed at Sengkang… and the subsequent stations passengers are unable to board…

means those at the middle of the lines towards the city or interchange will not be able to board the train because it’s full.
buy a car

make the MRT station holding area bigger ...

not necessary the train station but outlying area ...

with seating ... to rook at digital board showing details of trains and how long more to next train ...

... so that less crowd on the platforms, which is overcrowded in many stations in many peak hours

in normal day tis is fine, pple just squeeze then go can liao ...

... but during unexpected situation surely ...

stampede and death from fire injury :s11:

there are also some stations they can "cut in" the middle and skipping all the stations at the end so that more ppl can board from the middle

for e.g. east-west line from far east to town, they sometimes have trains that start from tanah merah during peak hours and skip all the tampines and pasir ris ppl

for paya lebar circle line sometimes there are also trains starting in the middle track from paya lebar

NEL should have some stations which are like that too. if not then it was bad design right from the start and nothing much can be helped apart from lower population or building alternate MRT lines.
