Don't get why people sided with distro so much. I also using Palit GPU now. Hopefully, it does not have any problems.
Totally no experience in computer hardware stuff. What causes pcb corrosion? Can manufacturing defect or improper handling during the manufacturing process cause an increased likelihood of corrosion? Or is it purely by wear and tear?
If it is wear and tear, then how long can a pcb last without corrosion at all(assuming typical usage under normal SG environment)? If it is less than 5 years, then why advertise a 5 year warranty when the product will be rejected for RMA because of pcb corrosion before the warranty ends.
Based on my limited understanding corrosion is usually caused by water damage. So e.g. if you spill water on your MacBook, open up see motherboard surely will see corrosion.
It appears that corrosion may form in environments with very high humidity as well over a prolonged period. I do not know whether the quality of PCB affects this, but I think it is unlikely that PCB quality has much effect on this.
Oxidation on the other hand can be caused by mining.
hi ra[g]e, ya the fanboys here are so scary.
I RMA through my Sim lim shop cuz i bought from them. so thats why i don't have a loan card, but its okay i'm surviving on on-board, playing overcook 2.
ya firezero10, i started this thread because i wanna know if its a norm to reject RMA due to oxidation of parts, whether its rejection by distri or palit.
And if anyone has graphics card with oxidized PCB as well. seems like my previous ASUS GTX 780 doesn't have.
If many people just suck thumb with their oxidized and warranty-voided graphics card then i digress.
Its $600 down the drain to me. which is why i'm upset.
I wanted to re-purpose this 1070 into my HTPC and buy a new one during black friday. i was aimming to get galax or palit's 2070super cuz i think they are cheap and palit served me well, that was of course before it broke.
I agree that palit's rejection should not be related to convergent's reputation cuz their job was just to send it back. For this i'm sorry for blaming convergent cuz what they did was to inform me there is a risk of rejection due to oxidation.
Let me get my graphics card back. hopefully it being fixed, i'll update everyone here.
If i can get it back fixed, it shows that palit is not so bad afterall, and convergent too.
I wanna warn the rest also. next time when u RMA your motherboard and graphics card, please remember to brush off all the dust and scrub off any oxidized parts, maybe it doesn't help, but you have nothing to lose.
Moral of the story, always RMA direct with distributor. I will never bring the card back to the shop in Sim Lim.
Back in the day even if Palit reject RMA, if its clear that the non-functioning gfx was not caused by user error, Convergent will replace the gfx. If that policy has changed, I would like to know, that means Convergent does not stand behind the products that they bring in.
Last time users at HWC always buy Convergent stuff only because of good after sales service. If warranty is rejected for reasons that are unrelated to user error, that is completely unacceptable.
Basically no different from those companies that give excuses to reject RMA.
I prefer distro that when I bring in test cannot boot up create a RMA request. As long as not deliberate cause the product to spoil. This is idea case.
Convergent I never bring down before.
BanLeong good exp
CDL good exp
Avertek argue for very long than help me fight with manufacture for warranty.
These are my exp
Convergent - Bad GPU RMA Exp - Palit (Palit refuse to exchange my faulty gpu)
BanLeong - Everything is bad (The CS there damn bad)
CDL - Gd Exp but ulu location
Avertek - Gd Exp
Corbell - Best Distro Exp, Straight 1 to 1 exchange, if product EOL. Free Upgrade to new product
I've had very good experiences with Ban Leong and Kaira. My previous Asus mobo had issues intermittently only during OC, so it was very hard to reproduce. Ban Leong did a 1:1 exchange anyway.
For Kaira I had to RMA a Logitech mouse with them. It was an old model that was EOL. They gave me a 1:1 with an updated model of slightly higher value.
Positive experiences with Avertek and Tech Dynamic as well. For CDL haven't had to RMA with them yet.
Anyway if its going to be like this, I'm not going to pay "Convergent premium" anymore.
Based on what they have done in TS's case, they are just an average distro. Push to Palit.
Like that I can just order from Amazon/Newegg and RMA direct with manufacturer. Get local distro no use.
