Time for the ignore list. Guessing that $49.90/mth is just a price to attract new sign up and when there are enough users who enjoy faster speed and get used to the fast speed, price will go up to $59 & $69 after may be 1-3 yrs time.

If you believe in learning your lessons from history, once the price for a given technology has gone down, it can never be going up again. The only thing to break this price fall is by introducing a new technology.

Using example of the mobile broadband.. the price for 3G data service has been getting cheaper and cheaper until 4G came and only then was Telco able to charge people a premium for moving to 4G. In the fixed home internet segment, prices were always that high until M1 followed by MR/VQ to thrash the market, if not we will be still looking at high subscription prices of more than $80 for a basic 200mbps line which is the price ST offer when i was making a choice between MR and ST 2+ years ago.

Like to share my migration experience from MyRepublic Pure 100 Mbps to Ultra 1Gbps which was carried out on Mon, 28 Apr 2014.

Since my 2-year contract was coming to an end, I signed for the upgrade in Jan 2014. Just 3 weeks ago, I received a call that my upgrade installation was scheduled on 28 Apr, between 0900 and 1300 hrs. In order to keep disruption to the internet access at the minimum, I initially requested for the installation to be carried out on weekends but after hearing that the internet access may be disrupted on Friday, I decided to stick to the original schedule.

On the day itself, I was still able to access the internet in the morning. Around 1130 hrs, a MR technician called to inform that he was on his way. After reading how things can go wrong, I actually asked him whether he has checked with OpenNet on whether they need to do any switching, top-up or whatever. Was relieved when told that since I am just doing migration, OpenNet is not required. Strangely, a few minutes after his call, the link LED on the Nucleus Connect ONT turned 'red' and no more internet access.

After the technician arrived, he replaced the NC ONT with the black Alcatel Lucent ONT Model I-010G-U (did not subscribe for voice) and proceeded to initialize the new AL ONT. Except for some minor hiccups on the technician's laptop to access the internet, the new AL ONT was good to go. Was able to achieve 840+ Mbps download and 450+ Mbps upload when my laptop was connected with Cat-6 cable directly to the ONT using speedtest from speedtest.net and MR. However, when the existing EnGenius esr9850 router was re-connected, can only hit 130+ Mbps download and 140+ Mbps upload. Suspecting the router was capping the speed, decided to leave it as I need to access the internet urgently.

This afternoon, after 3 days, I managed to replace the existing router with the paid ASUS RT-AC68U router that came with the upgrade. During the setup process, was prompted to update the firmware which showed 5571. With the new router, speedtests are now showing between 850+ and 940+ Mbps download, and 450+ Mbps upload. As of this evening, both the new AL ONT and ASUS router are behaving ok.

I'm using MR 150 gamer. Was told a week ago that opennet is required to facilitate the switch from 150 to 1gps. An appointment was to be made over the call from CS however I did not confirm the appointment as I am still thinking of switching to other isps. Anyway thing is how come yours no need opennet to come then MR CS told me need thus the appointment for opennet.

Haha.... So actually need opennet or not? I'm already out of contract with MR

i came over to 1gbps from starhub broadband and did not need openet to come down either. i guess it depends on the fibre resources in your area

i came over to 1gbps from starhub broadband and did not need openet to come down either. i guess it depends on the fibre resources in your area

Based on my limited experience over the past few days, so far so good.

Had some minor problems like not being able to surf the internet when downloading simultaneously. Resolved by upgrading the firmware on the AC68U to the latest MR version. Will continue to monitor.

It's been a painful wait for the 1gbps to be installed finally after a delay of 1 month since initial installation date in end March 2014. Nonetheless, the long delay appears to be worth the wait thus far.

Had some minor problems like not being able to surf the internet when downloading simultaneously. Resolved by upgrading the firmware on the AC68U to the latest MR version. Will continue to monitor.

It's been a painful wait for the 1gbps to be installed finally after a delay of 1 month since initial installation date in end March 2014. Nonetheless, the long delay appears to be worth the wait thus far.

Previously there was a link by Johnny on an infographics which showed some MR subscribers may be affected. It's on 08-04-2014, post #4519 (sorry can't post link here).

I am just lucky that OpenNet need not do anything here. Mine's a HDB block in CCK.
