so how does a N56U and AC68U performance varies when they are subscribed to a similar ultra plan?

1Gbps plan with N56U, assume wireless connection setup, how much typical DL speed will I get?

Wired speed 802Mbps? Wireless will be 60% drop that will be 320Mbps?

1Gbps plan with AC68U, assume wireless connection setup, how much typical DL speed will I get?

Wired speed 754Mbps? Wireless will be 60% drop that will be 301Mbps?

N will be about 200-300.

Ac can be much higher. But require the correct device.

My NIC is realtek pcie gbe family controller, so it should support up to 1gbps, right?

So in this case, even if I were to use wired directly from any of the three router provided, I should in theory able to hit 1gbps, right?

For wireless, let say for AC56U. If i had a 802.11n card, I can only reach wireless speed up to 300mpbs and if i have a 802.11ac card, i can reach a speed up to 867mpbs. Not any higher, right?

realtek gbes usually cant hit full 1gbps =p

also for wireless, a quoted 300mbps speed usually gets you around 100+mbps MAX
on 802.11ac, getting 200-300 is possible in best case scenarios

Also depends on the distance between your device and router, how many walls in between, doors close or not, interference from other 2.4ghz or 5.0 ghz sources... Your device n/ac take in(meaning how powerful is it, eg. your laptop is rated 150mbps, but your router can give 450mbps signal, so at most your laptop can receive 150mbps nia...)

Bro, where do you get the ridiculous concept of wireless = 60% of wired speed?

How much of a latency difference exists between the regular and gamer plans? Mostly for US based servers right?

But at the very least, does it support the 1gbps data plan.(Eg, can i at least hit around 700+, 800 or more then 100mpbs?)

And for wireless, even with a 802.11ac, you're saying it can't even reach a speed that is more then 802.11n, even in the best case scenario?

No trade in offer, but you can sell the RT-N66U outside! It will all be charged only after installation of the new ONT.

Bolts

Thanks! whats the best method to undertake now?

keep N66U and build up my PC, after that and save up for a AC router?
or use the $100 upgrade on the ac56u add $179 now and prolong the date to build the PC?

cash is tight currently as I'm still studying~ :s8:

I could try to get a longer LAN Cable to connect via wire to my Laptop now.. (Last choice)
DIY PC will have in build AC Wifi card.

Would love to sell my router but have no idea how :D
Thank you for your advice in advance~

The fastest is currently the new Netgear Nighthawk, hits about 910 on wired. On wireless, assuming you have an Asus ac usb single, maybe 450 max

Not all DIY PC have in built.... And those that have, need to pay more for the mobo. Might as well get seperate pci-e wifi, can get those higher output. More value worth.

Well, I'm asking with regard to AC56U for wireless, what is the highest speed I can get if i have a 802.11n adapter and a 802.11ac adapter.

and wired, does realtek pcie gbe family controller nic support up to 1gbps.

Sorry if I'm not clear, very new to this hardware term and all.

I just signed up for Ultra plan and opted for the AC68U router. I'm using iMac which has support for AC Wifi. Does anyone know the speed it can reach if connect via wifi? Close to 1Gbps?

No one can really tell as it varies in each situation.

Half of 1gbps if you're lucky. :s13: 10feet = 3m

Well, now I'm confuse again...:s11:

Ok, for wireless, will there be a big different in speed between 802.11n and 802.11ac?

For wired, does realtek pcie gbe family controller nic support up to 1gbps?
Whether this NIC support a interent speed of more than 100mpbs?

I understand speed might varies in each situation for wireless, so let say for example, under normal situation. No wall, just a laptop and a router.

For wired, I just asking if the realtek pcie gbe family controller NIC card can support up to 1gbps, not the highest speed I can obtain with this card. Honestly, i failed to see what situation might affect this question...

TBH, I'm thinking for asking myrepublic directly, but their CSO seem to have less knowledge on this then me. Seriously, the girl I spoke to earlier just straight out told me she don't know...Anyone here know anyone from myrepublic that can help me?

Funny, you are from VQ, go and enjoy your VQ connection. WHy come into MR thread and disturb? If service is up and running and run into problems, then maybe can say a bit. but service oso haven up yet, and you are the only one making noise...

I feel you are giving VQ a bad name.... It sounds like you are saying since VQ is the best among all 5 ISPs, it gives you the rights to criticise other ISPs of their shortcomings.
Stop turning this into a us vs them scenario, it make you sound like a fanboy. No where did I mention VQ is the best, i have no loyalty except to myself and what is best in value for my purposes. In fact I'm one of the harshest critic of VQ and their billing and outage issues.

And how does your senseless defending of MR not give them a bad name? Ironic much? :s22::s22::s22:
He somehow feels that VQ is 10x much better than MR and sees the need to bash it every now and then.
Don't anyhow put word into my mouth find me the post or black and white where I have ever stated that. In other circumstances that could be construed as defamation and i could sue you for it.

All our 1Gbps plans are NOT presold on NC bandwidth - it does not make sense to do such, their pricing for a 1Gbps tier is not possible at the price point we are selling 1Gbps at.

I'll take your answer as the official MR stand. It's good enough for me.

There's a marketplace on HWZ, could try there. I believe, though, if you don't have any AC devices then just keep to your Wireless-N router for now.

oh actually was looking at ASUS extreme VI MB which comes with the AC Card, its just that i don't currently own any AC router nor LAN cable that reaches my room.. i might just try to find a LAN cable that runs to my room.
