hi myrepublic, i am not sure what the difference is between the "beta" and the 1gbps plan, but can i double check that people who signed up at the IT show will have the set up done in april?

I communicated my concern to one of your sales guy that my contract with SH was ending in may, and hence i would need the fibre installed before then(i do not want to pay another month of uncontracted fee). he assured me that april would be definite:)

My guess is either in May or June to be on the safe side instead of April.

Disclaimer: I am not someone working in or with MR. The views expressed are of my own opinion.

From all the points gather, beta users are expected assist with the evaluation of their new 1 Gbps services via various channel. Beta users are expected to be subjected to unexpected disruption / prolong delay for their service turn-on as MR is tuning their process as they are transitioning from nucleus connect (NC) to being their own OPCO.

Beta users (by IT definition) can expect their service to be unstable at times (or all the time), some (or a lot of) connectivity issues as well as unannounced downtime for MR to perform urgent changes to address issues.

So for those who critically rely on their home broadband as sole connectivity means for doing work over the internet, you will not want to be a Beta user doing Beta testing. Click the cancel button on that service application form now!

Once the beta test is over (if there was a proper Quality control and check), it should means the now commerical (non-beta) 1Gbps service should be relatively trouble free for the rest.

Hi nivleK1985, please clear your PM thanks..

Received this email from your sales team, what does top up your fibre mean? I can accept that you pushed my 24th mar installation date to mid-april. I will really be disappointed if it's delayed again when the postponed date is approaching, hope it won't happen.

Dear xxxxxxx,

We regret to inform you that OpenNet will need to top up your fibre. Once it is ready, we will inform to arrange the installation. Thank you very much and apologies for the inconvenience causes.

Regards,
Order Team

Top up fibre is not upgrading ONT. It usually refers to that particular location not having enough capacity. This can take weeks, months to clear which MR can't do anything about it.

What beta testing? There was no mentioned of any beta testing during the so called promotion on the 1Gbps, for first 10,000 customers.

I just recieved a sms telling me that my installation has been delay till early/mid April after waiting like 1.5 months. I just have a feeling that it would be delayed even further when the time comes.

So how and where do we register for the beta testing?

Wrong to your guess as well. I am just a normal internet consumer connected on subscribed Internet service (Pacnet/Cyberway/Singtel/Starhub/MR) since 1994. I am currently a MR subscriber (out of contract since Jan) waiting inline for the beta. Any more sarcastic question to ask?

What you have signed up for is the commercial 1Gbps service. You have to volunteer to be in the beta scheme of which the only perk is an earlier date of installation as a trade off for all the possible "bad" things that could happen.

What I am trying to say was that during the signing up process, there was no mention that they were still in the process of doing beta testing. It give potential customers a wrong impression that the product is up and ready to go.

The least MR can do is at least to indicate to potential customer during the sign-up on the beta testing thingy and the estimated time frame on the beta testing.

Just my opinion. And about OpenNet needs to top-up their resources is definitely not MR's fault, BUT I would have presumed that MR would have already discussed and worked with opennet on these issues way before the 1 Gbps product was launched. I personally think that MR can do much better than to come back only after 1.5 months to say that opennet needs to top-up their resources.

Anyway, So how do we volunteer for the beta testing? I cannot find anything on MR website regarding beta testing.

I had to drop a private message to johnnny (of one the MR reps) to ask to be in the beta. Not sure if the other MR rep is able to assist you on the issues.

I do agree with you that MR should have done more on ensuring their new service launch can be deploy-able to end users within a sensible time frame and its made worst by opennet throwing a ranch in to deploy things even more. MR could have been more upfront and frank about the readiness status of their new service as well. For now, so long as the MR has not given you a service installation date, there is still the option of canceling the contract without any penalty.

1Gbps FAQ

Why haven’t I gotten an update or call about my installation yet?

When you receive a call-back from us depends on various factors such as the exact time/date/place that you signed up and whether you are an existing MyRepublic customer.

Please understand that due to strong demand (imagine a few thousand customers within a few days), even those who signed up for 1Gbps late January may have their installations in April.

As stated on our official marketing material, the start of our 1Gbps rollout was always intended to be during March. If we were unclear in communicating this, we sincerely apologise for the confusion.

We have already started calling up our very first 1Gbps customers and will continue to do so.

To be clear, the very first customers will get their 1Gbps connections installed this month (March). Due to great demand, others who signed up a bit later may be installed in April or later as we process all the orders. This applies to existing customer re-contracts as well.

I read some complaint online / heard bad feedback. What’s up with that?

Regretfully there has been some miscommunication with a few customers, leading to misguided expectations as to when their call-back or installations would happen.

We are sincerely sorry for those who have been disappointed.

As stated on our official marketing material, the start of our 1Gbps rollout was always intended to be during March.

We have started calling our very first customers back and they will be installed in March, as planned. Due to great demand however, even those who’ve signed up slightly later in late January may have their installations in April.

What is this Beta Test thing? Should I be worried?

Our “Beta” actually refers to the activation of our first 200 customers to gather feedback, which will help optimise the online experience for the thousands more to come.

To be clear: “Beta” is NOT an unstable or sub-standard product. It is a real working 1Gbps connection. Those who have been invited to it are simply those who have signed up the earliest.

“Beta” will also only last one week, so not to worry. You’re simply getting your 1Gbps a bit earlier.

Are you referring the very first customers as beta or non-beta customers?

May I know what is the official marketing material? I assumed Facebook is not since nothing was announced on MR Facebook.

For those who is interested.

Hello there,

My name is Greg Mittman and I’m the VP of MyRepublic. First of all, allow me to thank e27 for giving us the chance to set the story straight and to sincerely apologize to Eugene for the disappointment caused.

My understanding is that there was a miscommunication between Eugene and our sales staff on the floor, which led to his expectation of a call-back in late February and an earlier installation.

Our 1Gbps rollout has always been planned for March — as indicated on our flyers and on our website (see attached images). We have started calling up our very first customers for their 1Gbps installations and will continue to do so.

We understand that everyone wants their 1Gbps @ $49.99 as soon as possible — we do too! We only ask for your understanding that with thousands who have signed up, in the first few days even, customers may not be called up as quickly as they would like.

To clear up any confusion, our first 1 Gbps sign-ups can look forward to a March installation. However, due to strong demand, even some who have signed up in late January may have their installations slide into April. This affects the migration of existing MyRepublic customers as well. We have tripled resources to expedite things along — 1Gbps will be worth it, I assure you.

As to another point which I am afraid there’s been some confusion: our 1Gbps “Beta” refers to the activation of our first 200 customers. “Beta” will last only a week and its purpose is to help us gather feedback to better optimize the online experience for everyone. I’m afraid Eugene may have misunderstood this as us offering him a sub-standard or unstable product. This was definitely not our intention. Our network is up and he will be provided a 1Gbps connection.

Again, I would like to sincerely apologize to Eugene for not getting the few points across clearly. We will welcome him on our 1Gbps network this month.

For the rest of our customers who have signed up: thank you for giving us your support. 1Gbps — the fastest broadband in the world — is coming for everyone and we’re absolutely excited for it. We know you are too and hope to do Singapore proud with truly world class internet connectivity. (Sic)

Another Real Singaporean,
Greg

In March, our Order Team will give you a call to arrange for your appointment. Once contacted, it may take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks for your fibre broadband to be activated.

In the end, it is still delayed to April.

the top-up capacity problem is not a recent thing because of MR's 1gbps launch. and i dun think opennet cares abt resolving this soon either...
