Opted for AC68, will MR provide a Cat6 cable from ONT to Router? If not I will get a short one for the upcoming installation.

Any MR reps can confirm?

Yes a cat 6 cable will be provided. It's a purple cable to suit MR color

I just ended a phone call with Asus.

As of now.

The beta firmware is showing rather promising result and achieving 940Mbps on Macbook Pro and 600-700 + on imac 2009.

Setting it to 80Mhz only will get about 100Mbps wireless on iphone 5S.

However, we are still working with Asus to further enhance the router further not just for MR customer but as a whole for the entire Asus router family.

1. Mac Safari doesn't display progress in percentage.
2. Speed on AC68 is slower on older devices compared to other Asus router. However, it's faster for newer devices.
3. Port forwarding will disconnect the wan for a min or two.
4. Potentially high ram/CPU usage
5. Storing too many logs and slowing the system.

Rest assure, our team is working hard hand in hand with Asus on this. I will also start testing on the AC56 and see if it's facing the same issue as well.

Instead of just testing it in house, why not allow users with enough experience and that 'wants' to help out to test the firmware? I will be the first one to volunteer. I really do want to see the "promising results" you mentioned; didn't really like how this top of the line asus router is behaving all badly despite the beastly hardwares in it.

Hit me up with a PM for the beta firmware if it's possible? :)

Give me a few more days.

We are running stability test and heavy load on it.

The speed appear to drop to 300Mbps for a few hours before going up to 600-700Mbps for imac 2009 and 940Mbps on macbook pro 2013.

So it's self recovering firmware.

does having 30m CAT5e cables affect the speed ?

I only used 10m, the rest are all coiled up nicely

Didn't have any issues on old plan, speed hits the usual advertised transfer rate

But with new plan, I'm still stucked on 600up/450up

I think it kind of depends, not only on the LAN cable, but the equipment as well as your PC. Too many factors to consider for such speed. Only got mine installed 2 nights ago, was pretty surprised that my set up of ONT -> AC56U -> TL-SG1016D ----15m cat 6 LAN cable -> TL-SG1005D ---another 15m cat 5e LAN cable -> N66U -> PC was able to get pretty decent speeds.

you forgot to mention the PC used to do speed test also makes a difference also...

on my late 2009 MBP (modified to used SSD) and my 2009 iMac (modified to use Fusion Drive), I am only able to get 700+mbps on the ONT

use the 2013MBP, can get 900+

but your setup is crazy lah...

Yeah, I mentioned equipment to be slightly general (router, switches, PC used to speedtest, etc.).

Same for me but I think that MR FE has to take back the patch cord together with NC ONT.

Lol. I'm not MR staff but I bought the Asus rt ac68u from MR and inside the box got 1 black color lan cable written as cat 5e. The box was shrink wrap and open in my presence. And the purple one is cat 6. It's with me now.
