Thanks for the reply. Could I know what kind of speeds (for LAN cable and for Wifi) do you typically get from your router? (that's connected to the ONT). What router are you using?

I normally get around 700-900+ Mbps local download and 470+ Mbps local upload speed using wired connection via ASUS AC56U router and direct connection from ONT.

WOW the whole company is going down the drain!! MR called me 2 weeks ago and scheduled my appointment for today to do the upgrade to 1gbps. Technician came down and then informed me MR haven cut the line. The line has to be cut for him to install the 1gbps equipment. I mean dont you people communicate to one another. Shouldnt the tech have checked if the line is cut before he came down. And if it isnt shouldnt they just cut it on the spot. The tech blatantly stated that the back end support said there is no schdule to cut the line today and thus he will not be able to do anything today and left. Even the big 3 telcos are way way better. I called in CS waited for 30 mins for them to answer the call and then the CS informed she has no idea what is happening and just stated will get the relavant department to call me. No apologies no empathy. Time to create more awareness about this company to others.

To be honest, I'm wondering if I should cancel my application, and retain my Starhub Maxinfinity 200MB which costs the same unfortunately. I applied only yesterday.

I think the safer option is to stick to 3 big telcos or go towards viewqwest? am planing on viewqwest. I do not mind paying the added cost for the reliability of service and talking to people who are alot more professional.

I've just signed up for the MR 1GB yesterday, opting to get the Asus RT-AC68U router (withh $100 rebate), and the Teleport service. I'm more into general surfing, big files download, and Minecraft gaming. I got a SMS today saying that in early July 2014, someone would call me to schedule an installation. I would like to seek some views from those who are already on MR:

1) What should my expectation be in terms of the installation date? From what I read, it would be delayed for up to half a year?

2) How is the stability of the internet service so far? Could it be compared to the big telcos? (e.g. Starhub which I'm currently using is very stable).

3) So it is confirmed that the MR CS sucks big time?

4) I intend to subscribe to Netflix as MR has the VPN capability. Anyone has subscribed tp Netflix also, and what's the experience like?

5) My condo has an existing ethernet structured cabling system (10 year old already), with UTP ports on the walls in the rooms. My existing Starhub Maxinfinity broadband is configured like this: ONT-->wall UTP port--> condo structured cabling --> D-Link router (provided by Starhub). I will replace the D-Link router with the Asus RT-AC68U router. However, I think that the existing 10-year old structured cabling UTP cable will not be able to transfer data at 1GB from the ONT to the router, right?

6) I called up CS to enquire about cancellation charges. The guy (I have his name) said that as long as an appointment date has not been set, cancellation is free. After it is set, will need to pay penalty of $200+. Is this correct from your understanding?

Thanks for reading my long post !

My advice:
1.) You need to wait for MR CSO to call you, depending on your address and backend readiness provisioning, this can take some time. I waited 4 months for the scheduled call. Once the appointment is scheduled, you can reconfirm via online chat. Don't email or call them..

2.) So far, my plan has been very consistent since day 1. Even at night peak hours. But I haven't been with them for long, so I reserved my judgment.

3.) I can't answer this question. So far, other than unanswered helpdesk ticket, the CSO serving my calls have been professional enough, and the onsite installation engineer has displayed good attitude.

4,) No comments as I dun Netflix.

5.) If it is Cat5e cable (which is already in market 10+ years back), then it is capable to run at 1Gbps at short distance. Unless your cable is near 90-100m long, then it will lose signal strength. Cat6 cable is capable of 1Gbps. You can also consider putting ONT --> AC68U, then use another AC68U to setup wireless bridge. But note that the current technology limits the bandwidth throughput at 1300Mbps/2 = 650Mbps. I got close to 600Mbps on my PC at the end of wireless bridge.

6.) I not sure about $200+. Make up your decision before fixing that appointment. Once appointment is scheduled, OpenNet is involved, and it will become messy.

Thanks so much for these details. Just need to clarify 2 points related to your answer to my question 5:
a) "....consider putting ONT-->AC68U...": Do you mean connect a short, 1GB-capable UTP cable between them?
b) "...then use another AC68U to setup wireless bridge.": Sorry, but what is a wireless bridge, and how is the setup done (just high level)?

A.) yes. The cable should come with the router. Just any cat5e above UTP straight cable

B.)wireless bridge is like connecting 2 routers via 5Ghz wireless channel.

ONT --> AC68u (router and AP) --> wireless 5Ghz --> ac68u (media bridge) --> hard wired network cables to end devices

I see. Is the 5GHz wireless channel capable of transporting the 1GB data stream? I guess the configurations would be done in both ac68u, right?

Also, the last leg can be the wifi network to end devices instead of hard wired network cables to end devices, right? That is:
ONT --> AC68u (router and AP) --> wireless 5Ghz --> ac68u (media bridge) --> Wifi network to end devices.

at this moment, unless you have a 3T3R card, you cannot go pass 1Gbps on wireless.

Media Bridge is like extended switch, except the uplink is wireless instead of hard cable. In media bridge mode, only LAN ports are working.

You can of cos link up both AC68U with hard cable, then the 2nd unit can be a AP.

Haven't heard of anyone hitting more than 400Mbps on wireless connection so far.

IIRC that means ON no need go your house, they can just do things on their backend. Double check with the CSO

Which installation option are you using:

1. Using Port 2 of Termination Point (TP)
2. Reuse Port 1 of TP - Fibre Takeover

Option 1: OpenNet will have to go into your house to activate and test Port 2 of TP.

Option 2: OpenNet will NOT go into your house but they will go to your block to conduct the switching over.
