Do you think it is wise for me to give up my Starhub hubber discount and sign up for this promo? I am still using Cable.

I am on MR and still have HubClub discount. I just subscribe to the cheapest available cable broadband plan. Works out about the same per month but still get the amazing fibre speeds and my HubClub discount (best of both worlds)

moozmoow,

Ultra is our default service ($49.99/mo. with $58 One-Time Charge for 24 months). Ultra Buyback is the service whereby you'd terminate the existing contract you have with another ISP and we'll credit you with up to $200 credit in your MyRepublic account. Ultra Home Passed means you do not have an OpenNet TP in your home, you deposit the installation charge of $235.40 first and we'll credit that to your account in the 18th month.

Does the 1Gbps really make sense? I guess this only applied local SGP traffic? Currently MR Overseas traffic does not even catch up to the 100/150mpbs.. I am already paying $48.88 for 150Mbps. Does anyone know how much is to upgrade to 1Gbps as my contract not ends yet?

Yes, that was mentioned by Nivlek there are many possible bottlenecks, then by Lehnsherr he has presented possible scenario in the case of torrents that can possibly maximize the 1000/500.

For those that used the Norton Internet Security (NIS) that came bundled with the old Pure plans, moving over to the new Ultra plans looks like it is chargable...

Any clarification from MR?

Edit: Seems to be the case, since I recall in the previous plans they mentioned "Free Norton Antivirus" or something like that.

That's what I feel too. The oversea connection speed is so so only even for Gamer plan. For those who just signed up recently have to wait for 12-15 months. We are better off wait till then and see how MR perform then decide. Also I pray their magic on connection issue to china site works this time.....

Actually this question will be asked by ppl who tries/wants to understand how the internet work, and applies to all types of speeds and connections...for the same, we would also ask - is 300 or 500 mbps making sense as well?

The world in general is just coming to terms with the 100mbps bandwagon and would certainly take a while to come to the 200-300 bracket. In cases like p2p would a large bandwidth make some sense.

To me MR made the right call to shake the market with 1gbps - it makes people think whether these numbers make sense, which in the first place the very question that MR tried to stir the market with.

When the world move on to 4G and 100Mbps. Some question why do we need such a fast internet speed. Simply because there's a demand and a need to keep advancing and moving on.

Thus, when we upgrade to 1Gbps. Others would be questioning the same thing, so will they when 2Gbps is available.

We are confidence of providing 1Gbps via wan network. However, bottleneck such as wireless network, hard disk slow write, homeplug and many more will always exist and may potentially slow down .

Under best case situation with the correct devices. Full speed is possible.

we don't offer no contract anymore. There's a relocation fee applicable hence we advise you to install on new place directly. Static ip can be transfer. Router is optional. Only Asus router.
I'll be moving house in 3-6 months time. Can I still sign up for this promotion if I want the service to be installed at my new place directly? Currently not a customer of MyRepublic.

Now i am quite confused.

My contract end this coming July.
I chat with the online help and this is what i understand.

If i didn't sign up for this promo, once my contract end, my 100Mbps will automatically move up to 1Gbps plan as this is what MR planned for all clients.

If i sign up now, i need to wait till March and keep finger crossed i am among the earlier batch who get the upgrade else by the time it is my turn, it could means near my contract end date in July.

So, why should i sign up now? I don't understand the re-contract benefit if any. Or probably i missed out cos the website do not spell it out clearly and this thread is moving at godspeed pace which i readthink or hearsay till i blur.

So, all in all, sign up for this promo or not when my contract ending this July? What benefit do i get for a re-contract? Or in my case, is this consider a re-contract or what?

one time cost?
no monthly?
then static IP for the contract period?

how about dynamic public IP4? available at 0 cost? :p

One time charge, no monthly recurring charge, it will remain as long as you have a MyRepublic broadband service.

No, we only have dynamic internal IPv4 address available for residential :(
