there's always room for improvement and in the end, it's ultimately down to the user if the little things that make the difference matters. no right or wrong. u should spend on the things tat bother u (like the fps difference between i5 & i7).
The way I looked at the video was different from you. I paused the video several times, taking note of the fps between the various CPUs. And I noted somewhere between 5-15 fps difference between the i5s and i7s during heavy loads. Its especially striking in GTA during the part when the helicopter swoops down towards the building. The i5s drop fps while the i7s are holding their ground. Yes, most of the time, most of the games, we wont notice the difference unless we are running FRAPS and looking at the counter.
Yes, the i5 is a better value in terms of performance/$ just like the GTX 970 I bought earlier is a better value compared to GTX 980 in terms of performance/$.
It is usually the case that higher end products give diminishing returns. Just like some of the ppl like to say i5 is a better value (I do agree its a better value), GTX 970 is a better value (same goes for AMD R390). For those who are gaming using GTX 980, I hope they are gaming on 2K monitors as GTX 980 on 1080p is overkill most of the time. GTX 980/Ti is probably more for those who love to see nice nice fur such as hairworks. But of course, that's how Nvidia works, using proprietary tech to make ppl buy more of their fatter profit margin higher end 980s.
I wont buy Ferraris as they seem to be at risk of burning into flames lol..Seen so many videos...maybe a Chery QQ is better lol
since you already have the idea here, there is no need to ask/discuss/compare i5/i7 anymore, you should be able to decide it yourself, after all, its your money.

Forgot I running out of disk space...so adding in a Sandisk Ultra II 480GB secondary storage into the setup..Samsung Evo 500 is better but who cares...SSD vs SSD is barely noticeable...so now have to sacrifice CPU to get more storage, if not how to install games? Motherboard can't sacrifice as the motherboards I picked has M2 support

Anyone can recommend a mini ITX motherboard with DDR3 support AND support for i5 skylake ? I cant seem to find. That's why I am forced to pick i5 haswell.
I don't think you are quite following my argument... Pls read again...I paused the video several times and saw that the fps of the i7s are indeed higher than i5s on many occasions, but not by much. It was a slim victory for the i7s. But the part when the helicopter swoops down towards the buildings in GTA, the i5s drop quite alot. Not sure where is the bottleneck, was it also due to graphics card or RAM limitations?
I look more at facts first, before listening to the opinions of the tester. Just like MoneyFace earlier posted a Eurogamer chart proposing that RAM does not factor much into performance (was it what he posted?) and yet the Eurogamer tester concluded that gamers should shoot for DDR4 2666 as the sweet spot.
We can discus all day and I guess at the end of the day, if I want to save $150-$165, I can go for i5. If I got the money to splurge, I can go for i7.
I personally find that i5 + GTX 970 is the perfect gaming machine for a 1080p monitor (for now).
