Now see how this is phrased.... all praises, but the real truth is the Nepali didn't evacuate upon receiving govt's SMS warning and only thought it was going to be just a simple water flood, not a tsunami!!

How a Nepali teacher's quick thinking saved 1,643 children from monster floods

Dawadi initially thought the school was safe. Built of concrete and about 60 metres above the river, it stood on the same level as the steel bridge linking the village to the eastern bank, The Times reported.

"He said the village was gone: taken by the river. He told me to run." The warning came at 9:20 am on Wednesday from a friend to Rajendra Dawadi, principal of Tribhuvan Trishuli Secondary School in Nepal's Trishuli Valley.

Dawadi's quick thinking saved 1,643 children and all but one member of the teaching staff.

Social history teacher Santos Pariyar, 32, was washed away after returning to his rented room beside the river to cook breakfast.

The school's janitor, Sultan Lama, was also killed after returning to close the doors.

it was a mistake made, and a quick thinking teacher who saved lives. Let's stop the blame culture now we focus on the rescue effort

That teacher (principal) only listened to his friend who told him a village upstream was destroyed. If you didn't have any friend like that, complacency = dead.

So if the disasters happened before 2008, then can blame the Royal family.

Extracted from Google:

AI Overview
Before 2008, Nepal experienced several catastrophic natural disasters, with the 1934 Nepal–Bihar earthquake and the 1993 Central Nepal floods standing out as the deadliest. [1, 2]
The country's highly active tectonic plates, steep terrain, and heavy monsoon seasons have driven major historic disasters, which are categorized below: [1, 2]

🌋 Major Earthquakes
    • 1934 Nepal–Bihar Earthquake (Magnitude 8.1): Struck on January 15, 15,700 total deaths (over 8,500 in Nepal alone). It completely flattened the towns of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Patan. [1, 2]
    • 1988 Nepal Earthquake (Magnitude 6.8): Struck on August 20 near the border. It killed 721 people, injured 6,553, and destroyed over 64,000 buildings in eastern Nepal. [1]
    • Historic Quakes (1255, 1813, 1833): The first documented major earthquake in 1255 killed King Abhaya Malla and wiped out one-third of Kathmandu’s population. [1]

ok noted.
One thing, people need to realise now is that ALL the rescuers are in danger of being buried by an impending mudslide 2.0.
Just a matter of time when the two temporary lakes higher up break dam.

I find it strange that such lakes aren't monitored using remotely. It's 2026..

Instead of facing up to global warming, easier to blame an ancient curse and also prop up the monarchy I guess.
