a thought, if you are set on this.... since all in the 3-pack are all the same, you could try it out with 2 units (router + node). if ok, can keep the 3rd as spare, or sell.

reading this review it appears overkill (with it's 2 5GHz) given that you can use cable backhaul. But if both can be segregated for different devices (eg PCs vs NAS) that need to move large amounts of data, then it may suit your specific needs.

I've not used them, but i hear good things said on hwz.

some like asus because of aimesh (re-purpose old units), and because of longer firmware support.

i suspect your house can work with a 2-pack ie router + node. too much wifi will be a problem.
Watched some YouTube and going through some other thread
Can I say Asus XD6 2 pack will do? 1 act as the main router in the DB box and 1 as the node in BR2 (to shift the location depending on the signal?)
If really bad signal to MBR then just add another node to MBR?

Yeah, that's a plan. it should work.

the main one in the DB should also work, but see if you can make provision to move it around, say, just outside the db to cover the corridor/kitchen area as well.

the fact you have data ports in the rooms means a better backhaul.

Wondering if anyone has recommendations for a wired backhaul router with good management interface, features(priority for firewall & logging) and regular/stable firmware updates? It will be located in a DB box situated in a corner of the house, so wireless will not be needed/enabled. I actually love Synology routers, but it's quite dated already.

You can get a mini PC running pfSense or OpenWRT.

Hi all,

Attached my floorboard, the blue are the data access point.

Will like to good wifi connection throughout the house, any good recommendation to set up the wifi?

thinking to put 1 router in DB box and 1 in Bedroom 2 but Bedroom 2 beam seem likely to block the wifi to the MBR?
for router placement , where will be a good location to place too

//no preference in internet service providers.

Many thanks in advance.
Well i used to use a AC5300+3 lyra setup which will occupy your blue spots short of the first left, got a good deal on a XT12+xt8 combo which i placed at your 2nd (from left) and 4th blue spot locations, based on your setup, i think place at 2nd and 5th should cover most of the bed rooms which some coverage to kitchen......

Hi Gurus,

New to this so if I sound incoherent, do pardon me:

4 Room new BTO here, ie. all rooms have data points and all are consolidated to the DB closet.

Would like to set up as follows,

1. All rooms wired up using Main router placed in DB closet, doors closed (so at least need 4 x GB ports I guess)
2. 2nd Router connected via wired backhauling, probably placing in BR2.

Question: I heard AImesh is pretty good, so what will be the best ASUS routers combination you'd recommend?

Budget below $600. Preferably with as many new features as possible for future-proof.

Originally was looking at the ax92u (2 pack), however seems like there's reports of intermittent connections and WiFi 6 seems to not work sometimes? hmm...

Thanks in advance for any advice provided!

What's your requirements? I have the same home as you and I'm just placing 1 AX6000 in my study which is the room between MBR and the other bed room. It covers the whole house pretty well which maybe a dual AX55/56 AImesh combination would have done a decent job too.

I thought I needed direct LAN connection but eventually settled on wireless for all devices.

Thanks for sharing!

My requirements not sophisticated, it's just a personal preference to have all rooms wired up, minimise WiFi deadspot as practically possible, and also for future proofing.

For now, if really want to say - only 2 PCs (one in LR, one in BR) require direct LAN.

Another reason is also I am new to this and want to play around with having two routers at home. Am curious how it actually works so the best way is to try it out myself lo.

Hello, May I get some advice here?

I am with MyRepublic and currently my setup is as follows:-

ONT > Switch (LS105G) > Patch Panel (PP)

PP port 2 > Lan port 1 (Living rm) > Router (TUF Gaming AX3000) > Wireless devices

PP port 3 > Lan port (bedroom 3) > desktop PC

I can get internet wirelessly from the router as well as wired connection on my desktop at the same time. Can anyone tell me if there may be any issues or risks to this setup?

If there is, could you recommend something to eliminate the risks whilst maintaining the same wireless and wired connections described?

Many thanks in advance.

Please put a router immediately after the ONT, unless you don't mind people hack into your home.
A router will provide a firewall to stop the hacker and NAT service to translate all incoming and outgoing traffic.

So should be

ONT > Router > Switch (LS105G) > Patch Panel (PP)

Your TUF Gaming AX3000 in the living room need to change to AP mode .

Ah, ok ok. Many thanks! So I’ll just need to get a router between the modem and the Patch Panel? Will another AX3000 work? And i will just need to set up the router normally whilst disabling its wifi? Does it need to have the same settings as my router in the living room?

many thanks in advance.

Hi everyone, newbie here, going to move to my new flat soon. Am wondering is this setup works? I have LAN ports in living and 3 bedrooms.

ONT in DB box -- linksys ea7500 (disable wifi) -- switch -- Patch panel -- Ethernet Port in the living area -- linksys velop mx4200 (parent node)

I am not so sure if EA7500 compatible with mx4200. Also, if I want to add one more child node (MX4200) in my master bedroom, do I just plugged in the LAN from master bedroom and setup through the app? Sorry for the stupid questions, correct me if I am wrong. Thanks guys.

For me it’s Ont in DB box — patch panel port 1 —- asus router WAN in living room — asus router port 1 — back to DB box via patch panel port 2 — unmanaged gigabit switch — distributes Ethernet to all other patch panel ports.

I have 2 lan points in my living room which I combined both ports into 1 point to allow internet to come to router and router to go back to DB box.

Setup MX4200 in AP mode.
How to connect, see page 12 : https://www.imda.gov.sg/-/media/imd.../home_networking_reference_guide_detailed.pdf

Hi guys, going to move into my new flat. I have existing routers ac88u vs ax55.
I just anyhow set up in my current home with ac88u as main since I have that router first.
Which one is preferably the main router and the other as aimesh?

I believe ideally both should support the same standard which is AX, otherwise with the AC router, it might bottleneck/throttle the network due to incompatability.
Do correct me if I am wrong.

although ac88u is older wifi5 router, it is faster than ax55 due to its 4x4 antenna design. the range is longer too.
ax55 is newer with wifi6, but using only 2x2.

as to which one is better to put in db box, you are in better position to find out.
there are many factors: type of device (wifi5/6), geometry of your flat, no of lanport in you flat..,
just install them, then use handphone with wifi analyser or speedtest app to test the wifi strengh or network speed at various location. swap the 2 routers , do the test again.
