Fresh from the turbulent 60s and 70s, I grew up where my elders told me not to enter politics..... That's how a few generation of people became politically brainwashed....and daft

But the world has changed since then... the cold war is long over.....

And the last 5 years have shown that it's time for Singapore Inc to morph out of its capitalistic mindset - more compassion, more humanity, more voices... Let our voices be heard now.... before it's too late....

Compared to the past, education is expensive these days due to the extra cost that goes into enrichment classes and all. Children are expected to have a strong foundation by the time they enroll into primary one, so sending kids to tuition classes is no longer just about giving your kids the edge, but rather to make sure they can keep up. It might be due to thr teach-less-learn-more approach, but my experience with kids is that teachers are less inclined to make sure their students know their work well enough nowadays. Of course, schools are more competitive now, but much of the repsonsibility has been passed on to the parents.

That is still fine if the parents have the time to school their kids, and are educated enough themselves to do so. But reality is, few are. So sending kids to expensive enrichment classes has now become a need rather than a luxury. More enrichment centres, more need for rented space, more property value--to put it cynically. It's good money, and little wonder that NTUC is expanding into this lucrative market. But for the parents, education can only get even more expensive. And the more kids you have, the worse is the financial burden.

A lot of the social issues in singapore are related, due to how the system is created to serve a single buinsess/economic model. Saying education is cheap because it is subsidised etc only shows a lack of understanding of the deeper issues. And the domino effect one policy has on another.
