First, I said that the "facts" about everyone (notice I did not say auntie about this) was harping on was wrong. The dispute was over $80 of deposit; but everyone (again not auntie) was harping on she cannot afford $80 tuition fees which many blamed the RC. See how diff these two are. Secondly, what she alleges against the rudeness of the RC is not factual unless corroborated with evidence. What you have is first-auntie-said-vs-second-auntie-said.

I think perhaps you got the facts wrong. Right from the beginning, the issue has been the arrogance of the RC staff. It's not about whether the auntie couldn't afford the money. The issue, right off the bat, was she was telling Nicole about her financial situation, and how she was treated in a humiliating way by the RC staff. You insinuated that the auntie lied about the facts (hence your harping about wrong facts), and Nicole didn't verify the facts before she should cry (sounds weird) was being unfair to the RC volunteer. The allegation was way off the mark. The online community (eg, yourself) wanted to take it in a different way, it's beyond anyone's control.

Please don't attempt to drag in debaters at personal level with your "I'm surprised your thinking is so much in sync with the volunteer. Do you have the same experience as the volunteer, that's why you're so pek chek? How do you know the volunteer is telling the truth? Have you verified with her? Or do you know her personally and can vouch for her integrity?" Do you want me to turn this around and ask you if you had work 25 years as volunteer? Facts remained that her "rude" treatment was her words against the RC. Show me otherwise.

Just because you haven't been served in a bad way, you cannot assume that for others. A bad service is a bad service. You must be a really lucky guy to have been receiving great services from service staff your whole life. You are not in the position of people who are financially poor and asking for help.

We are talking about a person who was not well treated. And you want proof?

In any service industry, if such incident were to emerge, the service provider would quickly go into service recovery mode. Instead, what do you see? The RC volunteer came out all defensive and angry? Doesn't she know what service is all about? How should I be convinced that she treated the auntie well in the first place?

It's not important how a service provider treats the customer. It is how the customer was made to feel that was the key.

Or you're suggesting that the auntie lied to Nicole?

Something that rubbed you the wrong way was that Nicole cried and that made the RC volunteer looked bad. Look, I hate to repeat: Nicole was told a sad story and she cried. If you want to read anything beyond this, well, it's your life.

As for Nicole, you are going on negative offensive. I had postulated two possible reasons, one being a newbie. If you prefer to focus on the second possible reasons, that's your prerogative. Let me ask the question plain and simple again. Why did she not then and there volunteer to either give or lend her $80 at the moment? I think Chiam would have. Empathy was beside the point. Pointing out her empathy does not come even close to answering the question, it only explains her crying, which is not the question. Focus. Cool it with the emo and let's do this objectively.

We don't know what help she has offered. It doesn't mean we should assume that she didn't offer to help. What was not shown on the video doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Besides, in all honesty, forking out the money to help is not the solution. She does not print money.

Salient part of my question was THEN AND THERE. I did not see in the video much publicized even by her supporters of her offering this THEN AND THERE. Do you know when she offered this? THEN AND THERE or much later?

There's no point to even discuss this.

1) We don't know if she did help then and there, so please don't assume the worst. We don't see it on video doesn't mean it didn't happen. If I haven't seen with my eyes that George Yeo was helping the poor on TV, it doesn't mean he didn't help them.

2) She made known that she was going to help the poor family with a BETTER solution, by offering free tuition. How could she promise stuff like that on the spot without checking her time availability, without thinking things through? Even PAP MP-Elect would not be able to offer help ON THE SPOT. You need time to think for the best solution.

3) the only help she could offer then and there is giving the money. As I said, she doesn't print money. She gave the next best thing. Her empathy. Again we don't know if she did give her the money. In any case telling the public that she gave the money is politicizing and bad publicity in my book. Her empathy is superior than any other help she could offer, since the auntie's chief complaint at that point was the bad treatment she received.

@tequila_powered, you are entitled to your view. I've decided not to change it for you. I could spend endless hours persuading you and it still won't convince you. Once a perspective is formed, there's no way to dislodge it. On every issue and event, there's always 100 ways of looking at it. I hope you can look at that incident positively. If not, it doesn't matter.

I won't spend another word defending her, because her actions speak louder than words. :)

Let me say this for the third (?) time. I did not say Auntie was incorrect with wrong facts. I pointed out it was others (esp the champions of Nicole who went to town immediately from that point onwards, before and even after the second auntie released her version) who got their facts wrong where the dispute was. Show me where I was wrong here other than insisting that I was wrong with first auntie. I leave the auntie as words-against-words case, in which case second auntie scored points that first auntie had not taken the steps to write in the reasons why RC should give back deposits after violating terms of service. Note that this was not acknowledged in most of Nicole's champions rant against RC. It would be easy for NSP or Nicole or any of her champions to check and come out conclusively with evidence that auntie did in fact write in but RC did not process. But no, this facts-checking did not happen. RC and second auntie had been held up to be evil PAP entity (rude and money-grabbing) just because their detractors taken the first auntie words for it. Show me wrong. Stop with all the "you suggesting auntie lied" or "you suggesting Nicole lied"; stop taking sides without facts ('I believe first auntie, I don't believe second auntie just because first auntie is poor'), stop being personal, and start being objective. If root cause is not identified (regardless RC may have lied or first auntie may have lied), you will only serve to confuse the situation and possibly allow the real perpetrator to get away clean.

Where is it said that "forking out money" solves the problem? From straight of the bat, I have positioned the question of could one do what one can do for a given situation. Firstly, can Nicole (or NSP) afford to give away $80 for a person so dire in need of $80? Secondly, if cannot, can Nicole (or NSP) afford to LEND $80 UNTIL the situation is PROPERLY checked out with RC? See, where did I imply Nicole (or NSP) giving or lending $80 solves the problem? That's why it is important to go back and note that "RIGHT THERE and THEN". There is a huge gap between a person (who if can afford it) who immediately offers to give or lend $80 to a desperately poor person vs one who takes much time to deliberate before giving/lending $80. I hope no one is going to hyperbole it into $80 is too much for Nicole or NSP to afford. Neither does it make Nicole look good to say that even PAP MPs cannot give/lend $80 because...

For the remaining of your posts, I do not see why you are giving the first auntie and Nicole (or NSP) and her champions so very much leeway (accepting so much ambiguity in their favors) but not accepting even a single shred of ambiguity for the RC even to the extent of not questioning what happened to the [missing] written explanation from first auntie? That could be the smoking gun to kill all pro-PAP counterclaims but somehow no one wants to get that smoking gun.

So while many of her champions accept her crying as proof of she should be MP (or many even say Minister), I could only accept the possibility that at most this shows her empathy; and not her capability, which is the other salient direction of my question. I really do not need to go try change her champions opinion, I walk my own line objectively (and not herd-like with her massed champions as the popular chant goes). I agree to disagree with you. Hnzfaz, peace :)

siao boh still must give nric and name....
Maybe it's to ensure that the donors are Singaporeans, because political parties are not allowed to accept donations from foreigners.

At the rallies there were donation boxes where you could donate anonymously, and the party items like flags and umbrellas were anonymous too.
