I getting a Glass SP and a 8bitdo controller (Only yellow or cyan, Pity no light grey,). Pity the lite cannot dock though.

Nope. Save game files are stored inside the internal memory (32gb).

Personally I use 128GB sandisk sd card. So far no issue with storage space.

What information can be saved to a microSD card on Nintendo Switch?

• Downloadable software
• Software update data
• Downloadable content (DLC)
• Screenshots and captured videos

Important: Game save data is stored to the System Memory and cannot be copied or saved to a microSD card.

If you don't have SD card, these go to the system memory, which is very limited in capacity (32GB). Remember, even if you buy physical games, there are still patches (can be quite big) and DLCs. And some games are incomplete on the physical card (like the NBA 2K games), you still have to download a big chunk to play them. And note that game saves are on system memory only (some saves can be quite big), that should be the highest priority for using your system memory. So you will want to have SD card to hold everything else.
