Wanted to leave Apple to try out xiaomi new flagship phone ..

But then again, i realise im stuck in their ecosystem.

I have macbook pro, 3 iphones (2 work, 1 leisure), iwatch and ipad ... Everything is all sync .. Really hard to leave...

Just hope they can be kinder to my wallet ...... Or i will just stick to iph 7 .

You can try out other system if Apple’s too much for you already, it’s entirely your choice. I myself have been using iPhones since 3GS back in 2009 and up till now, all my current Apple stuffs are listed in my signature.

But 6 days back, I bought myself a Note9 as I wanted to try out something different (in this case, Android) as quite pleased with it, though Android isn’t as fluid as Apple but it’s very customisable its LED view cover is wow!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not leaving Apple’s ecosystem as it’s still my mainstay and I’m looking forward to the new Series 4 watch. Apple stuffs are pretty expensive but now Samsung stuffs are catching up as well.

Coming back to phones, now got iPhone X (main), 7 Plus (spare) and Note9 (spare).

Just do it.. At one time, I had 2 iMac 27", iPad, iPad Mini, iPhone4,5,6,8 Plus.

iMac cannot work well with MS office software, so switched to Windows. iPad sold off, now left my 8plus, which battery sucks. This will be my last apple product.

I disagree with you on the iMac not working well with MS Office part. It’s not the hardware but software. Currently I’m using MBP on High Sierra and MS Office 365 annual subscription, I’ve not problems with it at all.

I agree. While the X was tempting, it's very hard for me to justify paying ~$2k inc. AppleCare+ for the highest spec model. For me the max that's acceptable for a highest spec model is ~$1.6k.

well. there's always iPhone 8. unless you die-die always want the latest shiny product. iPhone X is considered as a new line actually.

in fact iPhone 8 sold better than iPhone X. guess a lot of people on that cycle ended up going with 8.

anyways phones are very good now. the improvements are very minimal. so a lot of reasons not to upgrade.

Agree and I think iPhone X and IPhone Xs both are almost the same except the ram size. I’m going to change my ip7 to iPhone X, hope the price reduce significantly. If not recontract XS and sell then go carousell find iPhone X

Haha Iphone X Max!

all boils down to budget, but agree with daylight robbery. even telco prices now comprison witth top tier note 9 still iphone x is expensive to get with my current plan. some more telco promos are not applicable to latest apple iphones.

but still end of the day, latest iphone still :s13:

LONG POST INCOMING!

Honestly I don't think it is daylight robbery. The cost of Apple devices are more justified if you look at it from ecosystem view and device performance.

1. Device Performance.
iPhone X Geekbench : 10,357 - $1,648 = $6.28 per point
Note 9 Geekbench : 8,876 - $1,398 = $6.34 per point

2. Ecosystem
Many people downplay this or simply just do not notice this at all but buying any Apple device usually throws in a high cost of software and ecosystem as compared to Android/Google.

Apple Ecosystem works tightly together, hardware and software are tuned perfectly to their best performance. It shows clearly how a 6 Core phone with 3GB of RAM and a 2,716mAh battery can outperform and outlast a phone with 8 Cores, 6GB of RAM and a whopping 3500mAh battery based on efficiency alone.

Software intergration is the best on iOS, Android has a lot of catch up to do. I would love to go into details in another post about this but for now things like on Tablets dragging and dropping is best on iPads and Android tablets are crap with this.

Apple isn't a data company, nor do they run ads for their users. Everything they do runs locally on your device. Photo suggestions, Siri, indexing of your emails, your on-device searches. Everything runs only on your device. Every part of Apple ecosystem is encrypted with a 128-bit AES encryption at very least in transit and on their server. No one can read it except yourself.

Even if they do collect analytic data it uses techniques such as Differential Privacy. For example, since iOS 10, Differential Privacy technology helped improve QuickType and emoji suggestions, as well as Lookup Hints in Notes.
Apple can now identify commonly used data types in the Health app and web domains in Safari that causes performance issues. This information will allow Apple to work with developers to improve your experience without revealing anything about your individual behavior.

Google/Android is an ad-revenue company. They make almost all of their money from ads. Android with Google services is the best at harvesting data to push expensive but very personal ads to users via the internet. Almost all the ad banners you see usually come from Admob which is also part of Google. So Android with Google can log your locations, travels, your app usage patterns (Within apps there are also recordings of what you tap and like more) You use Chrome or even google.com to do your searches. All this helps google push ads through almost every service you use and the cost.. Is your privacy and your data. Android has not really even started on on-device processing so your photos recommendation by google photo backup (Which is used to process and train their AI in their servers, encrypted? I don't think so) Your location suggestions is updated to Google first before running and scanning nearby for points of interest and gets pushed to you.

All this data is very very expensive and many companies want these to be able to target you.

I've been jumping between my iPhone X and my S9+ and I can tell you the ad tracking when I use solely my iPhone is very lost. They throw me very disconnected ads on pages that are unavoidable. (Safari has adblock & tracking prevention)

Then when you quickly shift over to Android for another month, the ad are crazy accurate.

3. Customer service.
Apple hands down are the kings of this. People sing praises for their services and Android OEMs are nowhere close to this.

4. Updates and Security
As with macOS vs Windows, the security outlook for iOS vs Android is stacked heavily in Apple’s favor: There’s more malware aimed at Android devices, it gets through more often, and security updates are slower in rolling out (not least because Google’s hardware partners are involved as well as Google).

iPhones aren’t invulnerable to hacking attempts, but they’re much more tightly locked down, and you don’t have to worry about security quite so much.

And updates...NEED I SAY MORE? Look at that iPhone 5s and iPad mini 2 on that iOS 12 supported list!

All in all for that cost say you get the iPhone X @ 1,648 vs Note 9 @ 1,398. Easily I'll spend that extra for the iPhone X

it's not about samseng vs fruit.
samseng's phone imho never command that kind pf premium price, they push up the price to match apple and they have crazy margin. samseng phone, if u wanna buy, maybe buy 4-6 month after launch.... u can be sure that the price drop like crazy.

both samseng and apple just hand in hand rip their loyal supporter, of cos i can choose not to buy, which i am surprise that i am able to hold on to my 7 plus for so long =:p

if apple is gonna keep raising their price, i am sure i will keep like 4 years instead of the usual 2.

It not only about Sammy and Apple. You are missing the point why I give the Note 9 as an example was just a benchmark. There are certainly other phones like the OP6 that breaks the price trend but how Long can they last is another story.

Electronic will only cost more and more. Slowly but surely cause companies will have to increase the prices to cover the HW Dev cost, software licenses, ad costing will all fall upon the cost of buyers. The reasons mostly why cheap android with up spec happens cause they mostly come from companies which has a large overhead from either their Mother company like Xiaomi with their new Poco. Oneplus is a sub from Oppo.

Apple can push their prices cause there is no competition in the same class of service as them plus they are the real true company that puts innovative stuff together properly.

I just personally feel that the price of a flagship model phone is getting ridiculous. To me a max-speced flagship phone should be around $1.6K max. (It was around $1.3K in the past few years).

Yes, you can say those who don’t want to spend can buy cheaper model like iphone 8 or 7 or don’t upgrade since even iphone 6 works decently.

They can by all means release high-priced premium models, like in the case of apple watch, ceramic, and anyone remembers the solid gold versions? In the case of phone, there should be cheaper options if they keep on pushing prices, without compromising too much on the tech.

Think this year we are seeing this direction with the LCD 6.1” model. For now, any phone with top and bottom bezels is considered “old-tech” already.

Few more days to see what’s in store.

I think we all have a certain budget for phone. We shouldn’t be influenced by ext forces. Some high end phones hve features that most dont use at all. So why pay for the features if you r not going to use it. Having said that i do recognise that apple has gd after sales service n gd resale value as compared to SEC. Like 1 of the guy said dont buy SEC phone immediately after launch. Wait for a few mths. As for iphone., pick the one that suits yr need. It is nt necessary to chase after the latest

I have to say that even though my iPhone 6 is slowing down alot even for surfing Safari or FB, it's still not necessary to swap a new phone yet.

If not for my battery degrading to 88% (which is also acceptable for most people), I might not even consider buying a new phone.

Kudos to Apple's standards, they really make tech that lasts.
