Ok thanks. Another question.

The list of modules stated here are the compulsory modules to take in order to full-fill the degree requirement?

I believe there are other modules offered out there for us to bid? Can I also exceed the required 20 MCs for UEs, provided I have enough bidding points for it?

Yes, you can always choose to read more modules provided you can secure the bid :) The grades will be computed towards your CAP too, unless you S/U.

There's only a total of 3 S/U.

However, take note that there's a recommended max of 20MCs until bidding round 2 or around there. Anything more is considered overloading and you can only start bidding at round 3 or so if you want to take more than 20MCs per semester.

Minimum MC is 16 per semester I think?

Those core modules are compulsory modules. For programme electives, you can choose 7 as stated (3 must be level 4000)

The other modules you can choose to bid and study are UE and GEM.

GEM: 1 SS module and 1 Breadth if you're from poly and if they didn't change the requirements.

Anyway, I thought you were the guy who wanted to switch from IT to social science? :s11:

What's the difference between breadth and UEs? Yes, I am the one who created the thread on EDMW. But after much consideration I think doing computing(IS) is better.

Oh ya, whats this S/U?

You mean there's a cap of 20MCs per sem?

Oh ya, whats this S/U?

You mean there's a cap of 20MCs per sem?

Breadth: Can only take modules out of your faculty or school.
UE: Can take modules in your own faculty or school (I suppose).

Basically, since you're interested in psychology and stuffs you can take those to fulfil these requirements.

S/U: Whatever modules you applied the S/U option, the grade will not be computed towards CAP. Either Satisfactory (S) or Unsatisfactory (U). If you got U, it is taken that you are not awarded to module credits as well. For S, you will have the module credits awarded but no grade that count towards CAP.

The 20 MC is a cap to give priority in bidding rounds for those who have not secured enough modules. If I'm not wrong, you can start bidding more modules from round 3 onwards to take more than 20MC.

20MC usually means 5 modules. So it's not recommended to overload too much

I'm kinda switching paths from accounting to IT should I accept the offer. :spin:

U studied accountancy in poly? so just curious on why did u want to change ur field of discipline? I thought most girls would prefer to do accounting than IT related job.

Hi guys, I understand that those without A level math will have to undergo the MA1301 test which is held before actual school term. If I fail the test, I will have to take MA1301 module right? Would the grade be computed into CAP?

Such shiets just because of 2 modules that has prerequisite of it!

the test is a proficiency test not an advancement test. Therefore, even if u passed the test, u will need to take another module to replace it. Like what napsterz has mentioned, it will be better to take up this module as it strengthens your maths foundation which is pretty much needed for other modules. :)

do major IS minor accouts loh :(

haha no I don't like accounting :X though I do agree with you that there are more girls doing accounting. :s22: Actually I think IT is kind of interesting, at least you get to build or create something, but it's not my first choice. My first choice is FASS, IT being second. :s13:

My advice: Take it. It's a useful module for you to refresh your math foundation. You'll need it for other math related modules.

I am also considering taking the test and bypass this. I am afraid of not doing well for the module.

there r IT auditors and compliance/risk management ppl...

u do not support anyone carrying out the tasks, u either belong to 1 of them or do both...

yes u do have to take certains amount of modules in business to fulfill requirements

Yes, you'll have to take 1 accounting module. For new batch, econs is not required any more.

Depending on your choice of modules and specialization, you may or may not encounter IT audit/ risk assessment. Those are programme electives. If you do, you'll work with a group of your module mates to evaluate an industry company I think.

Coming from an accounting background, I think the more challenging parts will be those common modules for your year 1 or at most up to year 2 ba. :(

PS: Just found out OS is now programme elective for IS :s13: Good for you. No more C programming

If I have a choice again, I confirm take IS now :s13:

Thanks guys! napsterz,What did you take/what are you taking now? Not IS? Yea I think I am gonna struggle quite a bit for the common modules.:s22: What's OS??? Does that mean I don't have to take it??

if u dont have A lvl H2 Maths knowledge, i doubt u will be able to pass the proficiency test easily. You might give it a try since there is no additional cost.

hmmm think IT looks interesting and having interest in IT are different things. :D As it may look interesting now, after u started studying, u might find it boring without interest lol.

That's true! So I am not really sure whether I should accept this offer because I have not done IT related stuff before.

yes its programming methodology. the most common computing module in NUS. not just in SoC. Engineering students have to take too

It comes in a few variations with different languages used. C, Scheme and Java if i m not wrong?

Sheesh, posting this from work.

Anyway, my experience is that if you (and also the rest who are eligible to take this proficiency test) can't solve most of the standard A level H2 maths/Maths 'C' syllabus exam qns now, you are destined for the ma1301 classes, with or without attempting the july test. (Unless you are going to EC or not coming to Computing/Engineering at all)

But if you find the standard A level H2 maths/Maths 'C' syllabus exam qns to be no kick, then by all means take the test and get yourself exempted.

And if you have a pass in H2 maths @ GCE A level, the test does not concern you at all
