Is the new MacBook better specs than my current mid 2013 MBA 13"?
1.7 GHz Intel Core i7
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel HD 5000 graphics.
The gold is damn sweeeee!!!

I7 is way better than core M in terms of performance

In fact the only thing about the new macbook is the design. Majority are changes that we either like it or dislike it

I like the retina display though

Was happy to see more color option and bigger screen yet lighter compared to mba 11 but the single USB-C port only really a deal breaker

Having only one USB-C port is what Apple has envisioned for the future MacBook. Like how they were the first to remov the Disc Drive.

Core M is trash. Going that route doomed the Macbook, but it had no choice anyway.

Core M can boost its speed up to 2.9GHz. It will run Lightroom smoothly.

Apple did not mention about the speed of the SSD for the new Retina MacBook.

If I am charging the the new macbook than I won't be able to use usb thumb drive? I search the apple store and those adapter are sold separately and there isn't 1 multi-port adapter that allow charging/USB functions.

saw my post? with e adapter can charge, video out, data at e same time. but e adapter is 100+ sgd haha. sure kena flamed.

Thanks. Just saw that post. cost for macbook will hit 1.8k++ unless there 3rd party adapter at cheaper price.

they know you had no choice but to buy. so they don't include it in the package even though we all think they should.

personally i am waiting to see the benchmark for the refreshed rMBP 13"

I much rather carry a couple of adapters than a much heavier and thicker machine. When I got my mbp, i bought the thunderbolt adaptors for VGA port (for presentation) and ethernet. Thanks to wifi, I hardly use the ethernet adaptor except for the odd crappy hotel that doesn't have wifi. Increasingly projectors will be wireless so that will go away as well. If its just 1-on-1 presentation or working at a cafe, I don't even bother with the charger, adapters, etc. This is the beauty of this machine - portability and long battery life with a retina screen. Not to mention the obvious aesthetics value. It is not for folks to need to do intensive work *cough games* requiring high cpu/gpu usage. About the only thing i wish apple have done is to do a usb-c with a magsafe type connector.

thinking of hooting but the price is quite expensive siol.

CORE m is useful if you are just using your laptop to do everyday tasks, and can do away the fans. my current laptop is using CORE m.

its true. besides, this usb-c can supply up to 20v, 100w, 5a of power. much higher than e usual usb. u wouldn't want to try those shady 3rd party adapters n risk getting a chibabom.

On the other hand, i think apple is genius for able to make crazy profit margins just to sell dongles....

It actually depends on how many channels the PCIe has to the SSD.

The previous 13" has 2 channels, but Apple says they updated it and it now has twice the SSD speeds so it should have 4 channels now.

Nothing to do with whether or not they are using PCIe-based SSD.

Which model are you using for the Core M? Asus? How is the overall performance?
