*I thought 1.2GHz will be able to turbo boost to 2.9GHz. Why 1.3GHz only turbo boost to 2.9GHz?

I'm confused..

1.1GHz turbo to 2.4GHz
1.2GHz turbo to 2.6GHz

1.3GHz turbo to 2.9GHz

I just realise that even though my processor is CORE m, it's not possible to turbo boost.

Don't think the processors upgrade will make significant improvements, unlike the i3 to i5 or i5 to i7. Base model is good enough as the 12" mb's selling point is the portability. The 512gb ssd might make me upgrade to the next tier though($2288). But $500 for just 256gb more is a little too much...

can DIY upgrade the SSD? my current laptop using SanDisk and can upgrade to larger SSD space if need be.

Nope you can't, I think apple stopped their DIY upgrades on MBA and retina models few years ago. Just use an external one or just spend the extra $500 if u really need it.

They want u to buy the USB to Gigabit port n hook it onto the existing adapter mah. Smart pple

According to Intel specs, the 1.2GHz processor can boost up to 2.9Ghz. Guess Apple tune it down to make you upgrade to 1.3Ghz.

i am not sure until everyone tried it out.

if that is the case, the setup will be something like charger -> usb hub -> macbook.

i would suppose a current typical usb hub won't be able to support charging.

Based on parallel website, recommended ram to run virtual w7 is 4GB. Then we are left with 4GB ram. Graphics is shared ram right? Probably 512-1GB gone to that. So we are left with 3GB for Mac host OS. Is that enough?

Still have to run work application like words, excel, normal surfing.

Buy additional adopter is ok. Initial adaptors only combo (UBS-C, VGA/HDMI, USB 3.1). I need to wait for it to include at least 1 ethernet port and display port/mini displayport.

Anyway I only use the adaptor while at office/home, when outside hardly or didn't use any at all. Travel light. So the adaptor can leave at home or office.

I think they quite cunning. If I make a decision to forgo macboook now and go ahead and buy current mba/mbp then I'm like buying obsolete technology with the old USB, old thunderbolt, old charger etc etc.

I'm sure in another 1-2yrs, they will update current mba/mpb to include 2-3 ports of USB-C type and they will use the updated logic board with i5/i7 to bring both the size and weight down but with more powerful processing power.

Probably 1-2yrs is a bit far fetch. The next apple event perhaps...

Maybe some 3rd party manufacturers would come up with a docking station solution in the near future.

technology arms race is never ending

just buy what u need within your budget at this moment

i just gotten rmbp13 on january 2015.
and i have no regrets even tho they just refreshed rmpb13 with new force touchpad

otherwise how do they get that much revenue as compared to their competitors.

i understand your dilemma, i am also waiting to replace my mid-2010 mbp. for my usage, it is clear that i will definitely go for the mbp. the new macbook doesn't have enough horsepower for me although the screen resolution looks great. if the mba has that screen resolution i will take the mba.

i am wondering if they would do a redesign to the mbp at year-end.

but the fact that the refreshed mbp has thunderbolt 2, i don't think it will go away that soon. thunderbolt 2 is still far faster than usb 3.1. but it is more expensive to implement and thus mainly for pro application.

for now, i would still prefer to have magsafe for the charger.

i am pretty sure type-a will still be mainstream for the next few years. it is certainly weird to have both type-c and type-a together on a laptop.
