Yes. The emails also indicated clearly that my old number will be ported within 3 business days. But they claimed my port in request was not found on their system. So i tried requesting via the app and it says "request to port in xxxxxxxx was already submitted for this changi go number". What rubbish is this
When u try again through the app remember to use their sim card, not your existing sim. I've this same issue also when they ask me resubmit. Took few days just to tie up with them to settle this. At first told me never apply (when I got the invoice listed clearly. Then after that told me I put wrong, port over number put as their temporary number field ; blah blah when their invoice clearly show I never put wrongly. Wasted a lot of my time with them.

Considering to give up the plan and hop onto another service.

Do Changi Mobile allows the number to be ‘port out’?

There's no reason to bar consumers from porting out.

Even if you're under contract, you are free to port out - just pay the termination penalty.

I mean terminate my Changi Mobile and use that same number on another a new mobile plan from another service provider.

Just port it out at your new service provider, don't terminate it at Changi Mobile or your number will be lost. They won't hold you back but might bill you for an extra month, depending on contract.

For almost all MVNOs Port out >1 week before billing date, and users should be safe from extra bills. In fact, 10 days seems to be the ideal number. They don't pro-rate (check their TNCs), so it doesn't matter if you port out too early since you'll lose the entire month. Port out too late and you'll lose the next month too. Note that sometimes there's a port-out failure because the donor telco rejects the request (GIGA was famous for this at one point of time), so give yourself extra time to do so and don't do it at the last minute.

Even for MNOs, they can technically port out during their last month since they will end up having to pay the full month anyway. However, because the MNOs actually refund the unused portion of the month after prorating it, it makes sense to wait out the whole contract and port out on the first convenient day instead.

@dreamer_toons, terminating means you lose the number. Don't ever terminate a number you want to keep - port it out and let the M(V)NOs settle among themselves when the end of contract is - your donor (or old) operator should terminate the billing on the day the port-out is successful. Your recipient telco will start the billing on the day you sign the contract anyway, so there's always an overlap of at least 1 day where you have to pay both telcos. In the case of MVNOs, it's 1 month's bill both ways, so time it properly.

There are MVNOs that enforce a 2 month minimum contract periods like Vivifi. So if you port out on day 1, you'll still be billed for 2 months.

True that, except this is a Changi Mobile thread and he's speaking of a Changi Mobile account, so we already know the donor MVNO. ;)

15. Termination/ Port-out Service
  1. Successful termination request must be submitted via Changi Go mobile app at least 3 working days before the next bill cycle. Successful request is subjected to Customer fulfilling all Changi Mobile’s Termination Conditions.
  2. Successful port-out request must be submitted at least 3 working days before the next bill cycle. Successful request is subjected to Customer fulfilling all Changi Mobile’s Port-out Conditions.
  3. In the event the Customer successfully terminates the Services or ports out later than this 3-working day period, the customer will be obligated to pay the applicable charges for the next bill cycle.
  4. Changi Mobile’s mobile line upon successful termination or port-out, can no longer be reinstated.
They state 3 days. Some other MVNOs have longer, up to 7. The general recommendation is to do it around 10 days, to give 2-3 more days to retry the port-out in the event of failures - and you have grounds to dispute additional billings since it's not a last minute request.

Personally, all this porting in and out gets quite expensive after a while - not only in terms of dollars and cents, but also in your own time to arrange it all and the frustration that comes about in the process. It's not really worth it imo. That's why I prefer to just stick to a telco once I'm done testing.

Thanks for the replies.

So I will sign up a new line, eg Singtel SIM only plan, then request a port in from Changi Mobile and retain that same number on my new Singtel plan; and terminate only after successful number retain, right?

Tell your new telco, eg Singtel, that you are porting the number in. Leave it to them.

You don't need to terminate or do anything on Changi side - it's automatic. In fact, you could email them to notify them that you're porting out if you prefer, but I'd rather not do anything.
