Actually it is used to control only 2 Florencence tube, way less than rated capacity. Actually try searching xiaomi forum there are a few cases of this issues as well. From xiaomi support It got something to do with the electronics parts that tap the current from live wire burning out as this is no neutral switch.
Do you have the official reply from them? I would like to know the details.

I'm not sure if the one with neutral is ok, I saw a few threads with people posting about this issue, those with pictures are all having no neutral switches.

Just becareful with these switches, but they burnt with a very foul smell so Incase it really happens it should wake u up from ur sleep...at least I was woken up by it.

I'm more afraid it happens when no one is home. Could cause a fire in my place.

The switch is not working already when i found it emitting burning smell. I got to shut off the main before removing it. I doubt it’s will still be online given the state, the wire was blacken as well.

As this is smart switch so it is always using power regardless if the load (light) is on or not. From the forum it seems that the part burnt should be responsible for tapping the current from live wire to power the switch. So it may still cause issue no matter the load is on or not.

The part of the burn is where the trandsformer is...

So far, I have 4 spoilt switches over the span of 1 year :( but none of the components were burnt when I open it up..

so there is some sensor that sense for sunlight and bring down blind automatically? how does it know how much sunlight is too bright or is the right amount of brightness that you dont like?

how does it decide how dark then it turn on light by how much?

how does it decide when there is someone in the room and when to turn on and off by itself?

how does it decide when you are in the house and turn on the radio to the right channel for you?

Can it sense for rain and close the window and sliding door at the balcony for you?
Cheaper to hire a maid to do all these for u....

thanks for flagging out this issue. Will be monitoring my switches. It's been almost 4 months for me. Also, is it the 1 gang or 2 gang that went faulty for you?

2gang for mine. Ya i'm monitoring my other switches as well, probably will replace them with other alternatives but there aren't that many zigbee switches around.

My electrician said 1 was damaged in a short circuit... he disposed it instead of giving it to me... i tot it was fishy and maybe he mishandled it... but seems like its a common issue...

that look very badly burnt. I've installed a couple of them (the neutral cable) for my flat.. hopefully this situation will not happen.

thanks for your detail explanation,
for me i just want a simple on off switch that can integrate with Alexa.
My neighbors intro me Sonoff, is it good? from what i see it look quite primitive as compare to Lutron.
In Sg there's not many such product that was brought in.
I actually likes the Lutron 2 way dimmer switch, it allow me not to hack for corneal hard wire. I was wondering if there is anymore such product that was produced by different company?

Sonoff cheap and seems easy to install but i read somewhere they lack safety in some areas... not very sure about this thou also hope to hear more opinions on sonoff!

I got 3 gang sonoff touch. However, I've yet to flash them.
