Open hk account do what? Malaysia account got?

I use HSBC HK to invest HK and A shares. HSBC HK has stock monthly investment plan. No commission.

Yes. You can open HSBC Malaysia account but you need to go over to JB to open. Good thing about premier is once you have overseas HSBC account, you can link it and global transfer instant within your HSBC accounts.

I have HSBC HK, HSBC US, HSBC AU, HSBC SG, HSBC UAE, HSBC UK, HSBC Jersey account, with HSBC SG is my premier host account.

You can open HSBC HK account online. No need go to HK to open the bank account. However, if you need to participate stock month investment plan (HSBC investment account), you need to make a trip to HK to activate the investment service at the branches. This is because they need your passport or NRIC and submit to online to Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

The stock monthly investment plan is only for Hong Kong (H-shares) not A-shares. However, most of the A-shares big cap are now listed in HK market so you can participate the program. When they pay dividend, you can choose pay by HKD or RMB.

For your information, HSBC HK also comes with multi currency with RMB settlement. You can use the debit card in China and deduct RMB if you have RMB in the account.

Interesting. Wonder whether we can use that same bank account in WeChat to do transfer? Since they need a China account and I thought hk also part of China

yes. See the link. I just go to the link. download the app. Open the premier account (since I am a premier with HSBC SG). After it opens, I global link both account. When you log into HSBC SG app, you can see HSBC HK account. When you log into HSBC HK App, you can see HSBC SG account.

https://www.hsbc.com.hk/international/banking-in-hong-kong/#fn-international-mbx-acct-open-countries

When you transfer fund, just transfer between HSBC SG and HSBC HK as you can see both countries account. The transfer is instant. Note: When you transfer from SG to HK, you need to use HSBC SG. When you transfer from HK to SG, you need to use HSBC HK. You can transfer same currency between the 2 accounts. For example, EUR from HSBC SG to HSBC HK instantly without any conversion.

Usually I need to exchange currency, I transfer to HSBC HK as the FX rate is better than HSBC SG. Example, I can transfer AUD to HSBC HK, change the money to USD, EUR or JPY and transfer back to HSBC SG. account.

Can I clarify that we download the hsbc hk app to apply for new account right? But for Malaysia, have to do it manually at the branch?

You can open HSBC China account. December I am going to China. I was talking with HSBC International Banking Service that helps its customer open bank account overseas. After talking to them, they are ok for me to open a HSBC China account by submitting the application 10 weeks before I arrived China. They can pre-approved the account opening and when I reach China, I can just walk to a HSBC China branch to activate the account. However, I realise the city I go to has a HSBC branch but for commercial. I have to go to Xiamen to activate. I told them next time when I go to big city.

Yes. You can open HSBC HK account from App. If you are premier customer, choose premier account. If you are normal customer, then choose one integrated account. However, only premier customer can global link both Sg and HK account.

Yes. for Malaysia has to go to the branches to open. Same, if you premier, can global link.

US, UK, Jersey, UAE, AU, all can open online or via HSBC International banking service.

https://www.hsbc.com.sg/international/how-to-open-bank-account-overseas/

At the right, there is an online chat which belongs to international banking service. You can tell them you want to open an account in country X. They can assist you and advise how to.

If you are premier, try to make use of the benefit.

Should i choose premier or normal when I open account? It mentioned need to top up to hkd 1 million. I don’t have 1 million hk

Are you a HSBC SG premier? If you are, choose premier because you just need one country that meet the premier requirement, then all your accounts in overseas will be premier.

Global recognition of your Premier status. If you qualify in one HSBC market, you may be eligible for Premier in other markets automatically.

Then you don't need to meet the HK$1M. Once your HSBC HK account open, you will go to HSBC SG internet banking global link to HSBC HK. Once it is connected, you don't need to meet HSBC HK HK$1M requirement.

(You can verify by logging into with HSBC HK or HSBC SG app and you can see both countries account in both APP).

Next time when you go to HK HSBC, you just need to activate the full investment service. Please tell them you are HSBC HK premier customer as the branches is super long queue (Make an appointment in advance). I told them I am premier customer in the branch when I show them my HSBC HK debit card, they immediately lead me to the private room and settle for me. :)

I read on the hk website that the charges for hk market is 0.25% and there is a monthly custodian fee of hk25. Is that true? Strange SG doesn’t charge any custodian fees. The fees is 0.15% flat

That's correct as they charge fee, also for dividend payment minimum charge HK$30, Use SG account better trade in this case. The only benefit is there is no GST in HK but the 0.1% higher commission override it. If you are doing RSP monthly is fine with no charge on commission.

This is correct. However, the HK$25 is per month if you have buy and sell transaction. No commission charges for RSP. Also the other benefit is you can apply HK IPO.

If I trade HK stock, I will use HSBC SG. I use HSBC HK for RSP, IPO, A shares trading and unit trust.
