Oh then ML is not exactly all in if he still have $200K in FD/SSB. I would consider myself only 60% vested in the stock market in his case as there is still a war chest if a deep crash happens.

Sent from Samsung SM-G900F using GAGT

oh previously I was 100% vested as I did not have the 200k

only towards Q3/Q4 this year, I sold off my 30% stake in a private business that's why got the lump sum in which I quickly put in to FD/SSB to prevent myself from doing anything rash/stupid

no matter what this portion I think I die die also will not put into stocks one... at current point.. my thinking is it will be my "fixed income" portfolio ba

for now FD/SSB... in future will slowly vest into bonds to form a ladder bond portfolio

(those who do not know what is a bond ladder please feel free to read from the link below)
http://www.schwab.com/public/schwab...nvestment/bonds/individual_bonds/bond_ladders

if along the way I find any business opportunity, then may use this 200k to fund the biz however I think the odds of me taking this path is low

in future when I start to create my ladder bond portfolio maybe I will start a new thread to teach about picking bonds and managing a bond portfolio

for now, I think this thread still mostly focused on stocks

but if anyone got question on bonds can ask me too

end of week update, yields are looking really attractive for reits/telcos

singtel a solid 4.7% all the way to as high as 7.85% for M1

even factoring at worst case 30% drop in yield, M1 would still pay around 5.5%

my 5 reits are paying around 5.8% to 6.2% yield.. average around 6% which is a solid return base on dividends alone

i strongly believe their assets are of the highest quality and hopefully nav/dpu will continue to appreciate at least 3% per year (as a basket)

I am still sitting on good profits on the banks and I am in not rush to let go of my of my bank stocks

however if my reits/telco are in the red towards the 10% zone.. I might do some rebalancing against.. which is probably reduce all my bank positions to around 20k level and use the excess profits to pick up more reits

cheers

For ppl in twenties, do you recommend bonds in portfolio?
any guideline for the bond % of portfolio?

That highly depends on your personal risk tolerance and financial situation.
It is very hard to know that until you have been through a prolonged bear market.

If say you are single, got no dependents, and got balls of steel to stay the course for decades, then 0% bonds is feasible.

Individual bonds or Bond etf?

You prefer a la carte or happy meal?

6, 7 years back I actually studied and planned on using SGS to plan for a bond ladder to have payout and mature bond every year... but end up I gave up that idea bcos I felt that I'm still young and don't really need the low risk offered by bonds...

in future when I start to create my ladder bond portfolio maybe I will start a new thread to teach about picking bonds and managing a bond portfolio

for now, I think this thread still mostly focused on stocks

but if anyone got question on bonds can ask me too

thats why i do not like family owned business

look at sheng shiong.. net profit for the year say 50 mil la

the 3 lim brothers and ah tan alone take 10mil in salary already (if dont believe me go open up the annual report.. I know most of u all damn lazy dont read AR one)

20% of net profits goes to their pocket before shareholders even smell anything

I prefer real coporations... example M1 .. net profits for the year say 150 mil

the CEO pay only 1 mil.. a small slice only

Maybe that's why she keeps selling m1 shares..
Money not enough :(
