His capital is all on loan de, leverage on top of leverage
Asking for trouble only

By right the student loan use to invest, should only go for top quality to prevent capital losses

Instead he go take more risk

MILAN: European shares were expected to open lower on Monday after Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi announced his resignation following a crushing defeat in a constitutional referendum.

By 0705 GMT, futures on the Euro STOXX 50 , Germany's DAX , France's CAC and UK's FTSE were down between 0.8 and 1.3 percent.

Italian shares are likely to underperform as the outcome of the vote raised doubts over whether troubled lender Monte dei Paschi di Siena would go ahead with a vital cash call.

A decision to scrap the 5 billion euro capital raising would raise the prospect of a possible state intervention in the bank, and also raise jitter over other lenders which also need cash to stay afloat.

"Italian banks have recently seen significant equity price volatility and European trading will focus on this and the capital raising efforts of Monte dei Paschi," analysts at Credit Suisse wrote in a note.

The index of Italian banks has lost nearly a fifth of their value this year.

SINGAPORE (Dec 5): ARA Asset Management, which is going through a buyout offer made by a consortium including its founder, has received support from major shareholder Franklin Templeton.

Franklin Templeton, which owns about 10.01% in ARA, has given an “irrevocable” undertaking to the consortium's offer and would vote in favour of the deal.

Last month, investors including US private-equity firm Warburg Pincus LLC, ARA founder John Lim made an offer to buy ARA that values the real-estate fund manager at $1.78 billion.

ARA Asset shares are up 0.3% at $1.695.

Will OPEC cut boost the value of both Sembcorp stocks?

SINGAPORE (Dec 5): DBS Vickers Securities is reiterating its “buy” call on Sembcorp Industries (SCI) with a higher target price of $3.10 from $2.90 previously.

Meanwhile, DBS is upgrading its recommendation on Sembcorp Marine (SMM) to “hold” with a higher price target of $1.55 from the previous “fully valued” call at a price target of $1.15.

This comes after the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) last week agreed to cut oil production in a bid to end the global glut.

(See also: OPEC agrees to cut production in drive to end record glut)

In a Friday report, analyst Ho Pei Hwa says emerging markets (EM) will remain the growth engine of SCI particularly due its Indian power plant, Thermal Powertech Corporation India (TPCIL). The plant projected to contribute an estimated 5/10% of FY16/17F earnings compared to start up losses of $22.5 million in FY15.

Noting how TPCIL has turned around from a $1 million loss in 1H16 to about $7 million of profit in 3Q, Ho expects “more stable contributions” of about $10 million of profit per quarter, with the commencement of long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) as well as the resolution of technical issues after the plant was shut down for repairs in June.

“The risk premium for O&M players should be reduced with the brighter oil outlook following OPEC’s agreement to cut production,” she posits.

After imputing higher valuation for SMM, Ho believes SCI offers “the best risk reward among the three offshore and marine (O&M) large caps” as the stock trades at an undemanding 0.7x P/BV, which implies a next-to-zero valuation for SMM.

In a separate report on SMM, Ho says an oil sector recovery should “motivate [SMM’s] customers to take delivery of existing units and place orders for production facilities”.

However, she points out that the oil and gas (O&G) sector’s operating environment remains challenging with the current yard overcapacity. The analyst reckons SMM’s orderbook, having already fallen by $800 million q-o-q as at end Sept this year, is likely to continue its decline as she anticipates order flows to remain sluggish.

“We believe rig orders are unlikely to make a comeback anytime soon, given the supply glut,” comments Ho.

“While its macro outlook has improved, the rigbuilding sector is on a structural downturn, in our view. The restructuring of Brazilian customer continues to be an overhang and deferment and cancellation risks remain prevalent in the current climate,” she adds.

“Both Singapore rigbuilders have been rationalising their operations since early 2015 to cope with the lower activity level. A merger could make sense to further streamline their operations, achieve cost synergies and eliminate competition.”

As at 3.20pm, shares of SCI and SMM are trading 2.4% and 2% lower at $2.88 and $1.44 respectively.

I always find those articles quite funny. Also don't know how these people get picked to appear on newspaper.

Not simple

I would take their advice with a large pinch of salt. 🙈
